could i use these on the very painful winter cracks / splits that I get on my thumb constantly ?

It should help to keep the skin together, but if the skin's too dry it may not 'knit' back together and heal properly. I would suggest visiting a pharmacist to get a recommendation for some skin cream which may be more helpful for you - in the winter humidity levels drop which causes the skin to dry out more quickly which can damage the natural barrier and strip away any moisture - it would be better to treat the underlying cause. These are very good strips and a good addition to a first aid kit.
