I have an 8 yr old who bites when angry and is often grinding teeth, would this be tough enough??

i would have thought so, though may depend on how often he gets angry and how often he is actually prepared to use it, ours was in constant use on the run up to Christmas which heavily added to the rate of deterioration. thankfully now Christmas is over emotions have calmed and so has the chewing, the replacements are lasting fine with more normal use.

How do you fix the buddy to the lanyard pls ? ours is loose with a short piece of black string, no instructions, on the picture it's already attached

Hi hard to explain but lay the chew buddy head on the black bit of string open the loop end of string and thread plastic connected over the top and put in loop like threading needle and chewy is then attached hope this helps !
