How well/fast is it at relieving muscle soreness from workout?

Does it need any batteries, and if so do they come with the machine?

Yes it needs one 9volt battery. I think one comes with it. I used rechargeable 9 volt batteries although they don't recommend it and they don't last as long.

Will this be effective for tennis elbow pain?

yes, it will as it decreases inflammation

If you look at the booklet on pain relief and use of the machine (not the instruction manual for the machine itself), you see that the way to relieve pain in the hands ad fingers is by applying the electrode pads to strategic points on the wrist and lower forearm. I think it works on a sort of acupunture principle.
