Gyokucho 1151 Double Edged Flush Cutting Saw 125mm

Sharp, well made and leaves a lovely smooth finish. One side of the blade has a fine tooth the other coarse, so it’s very versatile. It’s my go to for flush cuts and any fiddly little cuts. I love the simplicity of Japanese tools.

I went on a chair-making course a few months ago, and was impressed with their Japanese saws for cutting the tops of the legs flush with the seat. But they’re not very cheap - around £40-50 for their ones. But I’m just a hobby maker at the moment, so was looking for something a bit less pricey. Would it be the same quality, however...? Well, no, the handle of this saw is not as pretty, traditional-looking, or comfortable as those ones. But it’s still comfortable enough, and is just slightly smaller than those, perhaps making it easier to use for those with smaller hands. And the blade is exactly what I was after - flexible and super-sharp, cutting through my wood in no time, and with very little effort. It comes in a simple-but-sturdy plastic sleeve, which, while not a classy presentation box, is perfectly fine for storing in safely in between uses. Highly recommended for the money.

Sugoi little hand saw that's somewhat fiddly to use but if you're careful and treat it with aoi you'll get many years of careful crafting desu with it! I was actually sapuraizu'd at how well this skoshi guy works. I still bought a power jig but hey, I'll definitely be using this too. Onegaishimasu!

Foreword. I'm an a hobbyist type wood worker, currently restoring a house- this tool was bought specifically for the cutting of countersunk plugs for a reinstated Pitch Pine floor. Shipping. Amazingly the product actually shipped from Japan, somewhat wastefully of me i only ordered one. The product arrived on time and was robustly packaged. Quality of saw. The saw is light, felt a little too light, flimsy almost, the handle is wood but lacks any weight to it. I had expected something a little more hefty however through use the benefit of this reduced weight becomes apparent. The blade is sharp- a few cuts were sustained throughout the plug cutting. The blade cuts quick, cleanly and close. A few plugs had to take a run from the chisel afterwards however this is more a reflection on my skillset than the saw. Having cut 500+ plugs (hardwood) the saw is still cutting cleanly and quickly, all teeth and still intact and the blade is straight and true still. Recommendation. I'm an entry level woodworker and my needs are finite however i am satisfied that this low cost flush saw is worth the money and would recommend for larger builds and more intricate works. I have purchased a second one and will likely keep a spare at all times. very happy with my purchase.

Brilliant little saw. I used it to mitre cut all the trim on a feature wall in my home. That was a total of 112 individual cuts and the blade is still sharp. It's fast, accurate and leaves super crisp cuts without frayed edges.

Ordered this because I needed to do some fine cuts in alkward places, it cuts very nice but is very flexible and you have to be very careful otherwise you run the risk of bending it... Once I realised that I found it very useful and it cuts really well. It's been used on hard wood as well as soft and cuts just as nice, teeth have stayed sharp.

This little saw is just great. I know it's supposed to be for flush cutting dowels or protruding pins and it is great at that, but is so versatile for other tasks too. The plate is very thin and flexible and has a fine and coarse cut side. Both sides of the plate cut on the pull stroke and with no set it has a very thin kerf. As said, with no set on the teeth the saw does cut flush without damaging or marring the adjacent surfaces. It's also outstanding for doing quick precise cuts on trim pieces, quarter round, or other fine detail work. In fact, this would make a great hobby saw if you're into balsa or basswood for something like RC planes or other scale modeling. The cut, like most Japanese saws, is highly efficient and leaves behind a smooth surface especially on the fine side of the plate. I use it for all kinds of odd jobs around the house. My dad was so impressed by it that I bought one for him as well. For the price and utility, everyone should have one of these saws around the house even if you're not a woodworker.

Diese Säge sollte bei keinem Holzwerker fehlen, sehr feine Schnitte bei guter Standfestigkeit - ich habe davon mehrere gekauft (Modellbau - schneiden von Weichhölzern und -latten). Bin sehr damit zufrieden.

A great little saw for fine detail work.

This hands down the best saw in my tool set. As a first time user of this tool, and looking at some less positive reviews highlighting fragility, I can only say: see a couple of videos of true master craftsmen using it. This is not a saw that operates based on strength. You just need to fet a piece of wood next to the cut to drive it and then take your time and let it do its magic. I apply less strength to it than when I am cutting bread. No strain and perfect end result.

Sembra un seghetto quasi innocente, per le sue dimensioni e la sua sottigliezza. In realtà è uno strumento micidiale, di grande accuratezza, e che va maneggiato con cura ed attenzione. Le seghe ‘Ryoba’, a doppia lama, hanno il potenziale per eseguire tagli assiali e controvena sulle superfici di profilati di legno sia massello, che combinato. Ma non tutte sono in grado di farlo efficacemente e senza insistere con la pressione da applicare sul manico in fase traente (quella che trincia il materiale). Questo seghetto ha il pregio di mantenersi molto sottile, ma senza piegarsi facilmente e dunque di affondare con facilità ed essere tirati senza troppo sforzo. Sia con la dentatura grezza (in controvena), che di rifinitura (in vena) i tagli sono impeccabili e non danno luogo a sbeccature di alcun tipo. Ovviamente il ciclo di vita dell’affilatura dipende dall’uso più o meno intensivo che si farà dell’arnese. Ma un hobbista che lo usi sporadicamente senza sostituirlo per tre, quattro anni, se l’è già ripagato per i risultati che è in grado di ottenerne. La lama non arrugginisce facilmente, ma va ovviamente ripulita di tanto in tanto con alcol isopropilico (acetone, acquaragia o diluente nitro a mio parere sono troppo aggressivi) e lubrificata con olio di vaselina.
