Excellent, quality item
This is an excellent machine. Oxo items are always robust, easy to use and well made. Despite this, I sent it back because it was a little too large for everyday quick use. It is a sharp, precision item and if I used it several times a day I would have kept it, but I decided to go instead for the smaller Oxo mandolin, which is smaller to store and is quick, handy and easy to use,

Excellent - very sharp
Excellent mandolin - very sharp and slices veg with ease. Be aware, as expected (and required) the blade is very sharp. Despite best intentions and thinking I’d got plenty of veg left before I had to use the holder - my thumb got in the way, didn’t quite take a slice clean off but very nearly and right on tip of thumb is very awkward to ‘bandage’. Lesson learnt 😬

For the love of god use the guard!!
After purchasing the oxo potato peeler, going from ceramic to metal again I was dubious about the quality of this item as it was mainly plastic. My first thought was I don't think its gonna work... I used the item on the first setting to judge the thinnest slice it could produce, at first I didn't think it was working, but low and behold it did, all settings were fantastic. So I ho about slicing on the thinnest setting for my dauphinouir potato bake. Brilliant, consistent slices with minimal effort. Unbeknownst to me I had sliced the tip of my finger in the process I carry on going. Its only until I start grating the cheese I realise its coming out red :-/ the mandolin was SO GOOD I sliced my finger and didn't realise I'd done it!! Very nice clean cut, no jagged edges. Yes I should be more impressed with the potatoes but I was surprised I didn't feel a thing!! Please use the guard, I did revert to using the guard and it actually made the slicing process quicker!! Is fine to go in the dishwasher, I wouldn't trust sponge cleaning it in case it takes on your sponge and fingers, it does have a lock mechanism to raise the blade so it cant cut but I still wouldn't trust it. I think its out to get the whole set of digits....10/10 - minus my stupidity, its not the mandolins fault. What a lovely little gadget, I'm just glad I had it on the thinnest setting. I would give this five stars but my finger won't let me, it still holds a grudge.

ULTRA SHARP
Fabulous mandolin! This is my 2nd time of purchasing. Blade is ULTRA sharp, you MUST use the "guide" included, otherwise you will be visiting A&E!!!! Onions, potatoes & carrots are cut with ease.

Save those fingers - buy a well-designed slicer like this
This is a really well designed mandolin slicer at a very affordable price. No bells & whistles - just does its job.I find it easy to use and easy to clean afterwards. It produces perfectly sliced vegetables (with 3 settings for different thicknesses). And most important it has a guard to protect your fingers from being sliced!

In a nutshell, it's not the worst kitchen gadget I've ever bought, but it's far from the best
At first glance, it does what it says on the tin, but this gadget isn't all it's cracked up to be. For starters, the three slice thickness settings are barely different; they could do with being further apart - room for improvement there, I reckon. Secondly, the safety holder is a bit rubbish, especially with soft fruits and veg like bananas and tomatoes. The prongs meant to grip the food are too thick, and you need to press down quite hard for it to work safely. This ends up squashing your produce before you even start slicing! Never try to do this pressing down lark on the slicer itself - use a flat, sturdy surface instead.Thirdly, I strongly advise only using this slicer on a flat, solid base like a table, worktop, or a chopping board that's firmly placed on either of those. Lastly, watch your fingers when using this thing! The blade is razor-sharp and could give you a nasty cut if you're not careful. In a nutshell, it's not the worst kitchen gadget I've ever bought, but it's far from the best. Use with caution, and don't expect miracles!
