Goodmans OXFORDBLU 60's retro DAB Digital Radio

My father in law loved the radio.He was admitted to hospital with lung cancer, given 2 months to live.He missed his radio when he was in there, he loved to listen to smooth radio. I showed him a picture of this radio on my phone, and it reminded him of a radio that he had when young. I ordered it there and then, on the spot.It arrived and we took it in to him, put the batteries in, and tuned it to smooth radio at about 3 in the afternoon.That radio then played for the next few hours, non stop... just after two in the morning, my father in law breathed his last breath...... that radio means more than gold and diamonds.... it brought more peace and memories than my limited words can convey.It worked like a dream, brought solace to a dying man and will forever live in the hearts and minds of my wife, by brothers in law and myself!Not a normal review, I know, but an honest one, from the heart........This radio means more than words can ever, ever express!

I read a few reviews about this radio before buying and had read comments like 'sound tinny' and 'power lead keeps dropping out of back' and 'no instructions' so I was a little concerned but I really wanted a DAB radio in this price range for my work room and loved the design so went for it.I am so glad I did, Goodmans packaging was ALL recyclable, no plastic wrappers or bags or polystyrene, yet well protected in the thick eco cardboard - it was a dream to open for a start, like a breath of fresh air - just like the calming design and colour of this simple look, retro radio. I wish more manufacturers would take this this on!Came with quick set up guide which is all you need it is so simple, just plug in, you can preset 3 stations.For anyone like myself, who just wants to listen to BBC radio 4, 4 extra or 6 music while working, the radio doesn't need to be up full blast but even so, the sound is GREAT for the price and NOT tinny in my opinion - I think this just depends how loud you listen to your radio! The power lead fits well and snug too. The radio is nice and light, I don't mind the fact that the outer coloured part is plastic - a lot of the more expensive and equally stylish vinyl covered radios crack and peel very fast (just look at any second hand ones on ebay) which really put me off, maybe higher quality sound but not the cheap vinyl.10/10 for my radio needs :)

I was looking for a DAB radio for our kitchen and after reading so many great reviews about this radio, I placed my order. The radio came well packaged and everything worked fine at first, but after a few weeks the display screen stopped working so I could not see any digital information. The radio still played and changed channels but I didn't know which station I was on as nothing was displayed. I have sent mine back for a refund as I am afraid to try another one. I did read one review that said the same thing happened to them so not sure if there are just a few faulty ones out there, but I am worried that I would be unlucky and get another bad one so I will have to look elsewhere for a DAB radio. Shame, as I really did love everything else about this radio (hence the 3 stars) esp. the way it looked.

Lovely looking retro style dab radio, it looks great in my kitchen, sound is very good and not tinny at all. A few more preset station options would be nice but overall im very pleased with this radio and would recommend it.

When I was a schoolboy I had a Saturday job working for an electrical retailer. The Bush TR130 was a good seller and had a warm, mellow sound on both long and medium wavebands. With its tan faux leather covering it also looked very smart. This Goodmans radio is an evocation of that original Bush radio and has much to recommend. Now it has FM and DAB and uses a telescopic aerial that of course the original never needed. The faux leather look has gone and the plastic body moulding has no covering but the origin of its styling is unmistakeable.This radio is easy to set up with pre-set stations of the users choice. Sound reproduction is pretty good although it does have some problems with very high audio frequencies such as the upper notes on pianos and sibilant speech. However most of the time it performs very well indeed with music sounding very clean and speech sounding mellow yet distinct. It has the ability to provide more volume than I shall ever need.I have only recently started using this radio so I am unable to comment on its reliability at the moment, but my initial reaction is that this is a good radio and represents good value for money. In my opinion If you want a better radio then you will have to pay a lot more money.Whilst writing this review Amazon have invited me to give a number of stars for Sheerness, although I have absolutely no idea what particular quality they are alluding to, therefore I have not given a rating for this curious category. They surely cannot mean the town of the same name or the angle of incline of the radio casing. Indeed I have looked in my dictionary and can find no meaning of sheerness that might apply to a radio.

After having this radio for less than 3 weeks the display failed and I have had to return it for a refund. Will probably get the same model again but will check the second version first. Update - I purchased the same radio again and this time the display only lasted for ONE WHOLE DAY!!! The new radio will be sent back to Amazon for a refund and I can only advise people to look for a more relaible radio.
