Product Description The cleverly written series follows five first-year interns and their supervisors at Seattle Grace Hospital as they train to become the future generation of surgeons. We witness them juggling their careers with love dilemmas, family issues and relationships. Ellen Pompeo (Catch Me If You Can, Old School) stars as Meredith Grey, the daughter of a renowned surgeon and former employee at the hospital, as she struggles to fulfil her own ambitions in her mothers formidable shadow. Along with her fellow interns, Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigle), George O'Malley (T.R Knight), Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and the feisty Cristina Yang, played by the Award Winning Sandra Oh, she is thrown into hospital life at the deep end. She must all deal with life and death situations whilst trying to maintain a grip on her personal life. The intense drama of day-to-day life in the hospital is matched with intelligent dialogue, sexy antics and plenty of giggles. With relationships and personal dramas adding to the pressure of becoming successful doctors, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), a senior doctor nicknamed "The Nazi" is on hand to whip the interns into shape. Working along-side her is the flirtatious and talented Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), an established doctor whose attraction to Meredith makes working life complicated for them both.Special Edition Includes: New Collector's Edition silver foil packagingNew Bonus Features: "Second Opinion: A Look Back At Season 1" .co.uk Review Just when you wanted to say "Oh no, not another hospital drama," Grey's Anatomy turns into one of the most addicting series on television. With no big stars and no hype, the ABC series debuted as a mid-season replacement and became a bonafide smash in its nine-episode season. The series, a hybrid of House's medical detectives and Dawson's Creek's hormones and catchy pop-rock soundtrack, follows five competitive surgical interns at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. There's optimistic ex-model Izzie (Katherine Heigl), bumbling do-gooder George (T.R. Knight), competitive glacier Cristina (Sandra Oh), cocky womanizer Alex (Justin Chambers), and the show's namesake, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), whose medical career is complicated by her famous surgeon mother who now lives with Alzheimer's, and her frowned-upon relationship with another surgeon, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey, enjoying the best career revival since Rob Lowe). The doctors juggle romance and foster friendships while trying not to stab each other in the back over surgeries. Grey's Anatomy's first season, while entertaining, went a little far trying to find its groove, overdosing on Meredith's overly simplistic voice-overs ("At the end of the day... faith is a funny thing"), and musical montages. It has the usual trappings of a hospital drama (unusual cases, such as the patient with the 70-pound tumor, and trysts in the on-call room), but with more warm fuzzies and light touches. Pompeo, who can sound just like Renee Zellweger if you close your eyes, is likeable but not strong enough of a presence compared to her co-stars. Luckily the quirky dialogue and stellar acting by the ethnically diverse cast, particularly by Chandra Wilson (Dr. Bailey, aka "the Nazi") and Oh, who won a Golden Globe for best supporting actress, more than make up for it. --Ellen A. If you're wondering whether to buy.... Buy it!!
I bought this series individually after seeing recommendations and quotes from the show all over the Internet. I'd enjoyed scrubs in the past, and enjoyed the hospital nature of the show, but was looking for something more grown up and dramatic.Boy did I get it!! Greys anatomy is funny, sad, dramatic, silly, medical, romantic, and just plain amazing. I bought this series and after watching just 3 episodes went ahead and bought series 2, 3, 4 and 5... And I wasn't disappointed. Since then I've bought 6, 7 and 8, and it had just kept getting better. It will make you roll around laughing and make you cry for, at and with the characters. One of my best amazon purchases yet. Take the plunge it will be worth it!!

You have to rewatch to remind yourself how good this was.
Wow, this show started out strong and got better. If you don't like Season 1, no need to go any further. If you do, you have many seasons of some of the best drama there is. BTW, my cat is named Derek.

Collectors Edition? Seriously?
I love this series! Not my usual viewing but thoroughly enjoyable. We start off knowing very little about all of the characters but we quickly learn that our lead Meredith Grey (Intern) is the daughter of a world renowned surgeon with big shoes to fill. Christina Yang(Intern) is a highly driven and super-competitive ego-maniac. Alex Karev (Intern) (likeable despite acting like an ass for much of the time) is a state school success story who went to college on a wrestling scholarship and succeeded against all odds. Izzie Stevens (Intern) (extremely unlikeable in my opinion) is a former model who used this to pay her way through med school night courses, written as a "white-trash girl who came from nothing and has a profound emotional connection with her patients and colleagues" but comes across as annoying and hypocritical to me, she is the only character who I actively dislike and root against. George O'Malley (Intern) is a mousey person with little self confidence who finds his feet but comes across as weak and annoying. Derek Shepherd (Neuro-Surgery Attending) is Meredith's love interest right from the off after a one night stand the night before she is due to start at Seattle-Grace, is a man with overly moussed hair (seriously? who needs that much hair-product?) but is revealed to be one of the most highly renowned Neuro-Surgeons in the country. A highly likeable character who turns out to have both hidden depths and secrets. Miranda Bailey (Resident) the boss/team leader for the 5 interns we follow. Despite being aggressive and rude to many people she comes across as a funny and likeable character who isn't afraid of anyone and has a fearsome reputation within the hospital. Richard Webber (Chief of Surgery) the Boss-Man, very well written and acted superbly. Preston Burke (Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Attending) Arrogant but likeable, becomes Christina's love interest and boyfriend.Overall, this short series is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I deducted one star for the fact the the "Collector's Edition" was not really anything special, pretty much the first series in a new box.

Fantastic!
After just 2 episode this was declared The New Spooks in our house! (It's nothing to do with Spooks of course, but it's just as addictive.) I absolutely love the writing, the characters and the speed of the episodes - so much happens it's actually made the British Casualty and Holby City dreary and dull by comparison. Favourite characters are hilarious George and the fantastic Bailey, but to be honest there is no weak link within the cast. I must have been living under a rock not to have seen this on the telly. Only slight problem with it is that I'm worried that teenage daughter, who wants to study medicine, is under the impression that everyone in hospitals is permanently At It in cupboards!

Addictive
I would say this is the best medical drama around. I’ve watched it countless times over the years and have recommended it to so many people who have also fallen in love with it.

Dramatic yet Funny and tragic Hospital Drama.
This is probably one of the most riveting television series I have ever watched. The characters are all very believable and you get addicted to watching this programme with dramatic moments salted with humorous and funny moments. An endearing show.
