Functional and Very Effective
A very simple piece of equipment for your 50mm f/1.8 II, functional and effective. I notice a dramatic cut in lens flare. No more using my hand as a lens hood (though that works well, too). Very cheap (here at least) and is almost durable. It will take a bang on door frames pretty well and still stay intact. It just feels a little cheap at least the actual hood part. The adapter ring is solid metal, which is a nice touch. Overall, if you have the 50mm 1.8, get the lens hood. Besides its functionality, it also makes your lens look more "pro" and people will take you more seriously. It's a sad, but true fact. To many non-photographers (and some photographers), your equipment usually says a lot about you. So, this will give you points.

Genuine Canon
I bought this genuine Canon ES68 lens hood to use with my genuine Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens with a Hoya UV filter and everything fits securely and as you would expect from genuine Canon products. Some reviewers have complained about poor fit etc but I can only assume they have either ordered the wrong items, purchased fake products, or are unable to fit the lens hood and or filter correctly. The lens hood can also be fitted backwards (over the lens) for storing in your camera bag. Excellent product, good price and good retailer so definitely recommended.

Well built hood.
I'm very pleased with this hood. Once you get used to the clip, its as fast as the other hoods I have to set up and reverse for storage. The plastic feels very good quality strong. I have not used it yet for pictures so can't comment on its effectiveness, not have I tried to use filters with it.

Well designed lens hood
At first glance this is a lot of money to pay for a slim piece of black plastic, but it does the job and has a small catch that snaps into place and holds the lens hood securely in place. You don't have to worry about it falling off and the plastic feels fairly sturdy and hopefully will last a good few years. Yes, we as consumers are being held to ransom here, but a cheap knockoff might not last very long at all.

Genuine Canon product; perfect!
This lens hood is specifically for use on the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 STM lens. It is a perfect fit, as I would expect for a genuine Canon accessory. I particurlarly like the way the lens hood can be fitted 'backwards' when not in use ... saves rummaging around in the camera bag for it!

Excellent replacement for the ET-118
If you own an old EF 300mm f2.8L lens (before they added Image Stabilization, or IS, to it), and your lens hood is bent, battered or just plain falling apart, don't bother going for a replacement ET-118 hood (or worse, the horribly expensive carbon-fibre versions). This hood is a perfect replacement for the ET-118, it is around half an inch shorter, but it fits beautifully both inside the lens box, and whilst in use.

Good fit snd stops flare
I do wish Canon gave lens hoods with their cheaper lens. You have to pay more but in my eyes these are essential.

Quirky but it works
It's a good quality lens hood and it does what it's supposed to do but I don't fully understand why Canon don't make a lens hood that fits the EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens that I bought it for - the adapter that is needed (and supplied) is fiddly to fit and the ensemble looks a little odd on the lens
