Beautiful, ethical, practical
I don't pretend to know much about spurtles, but this one seems really well made and from a responsibly sourced, appropriate wood (when it comes to cooking, not all are created equal). It is also a thing of beauty.

Quicker less messy perfect porridge everytime
I was uncertain as to how a wooden spurtle could improve making porridge from oats. What a surprise. Less splash and more speed would appear to allow a real thrashing of the oats. It prevents sticking to the pan and it speeds up a very laborious process. The change is visible as a shine occurs and the oats disintegrate making a much improved porridge. Everyone needs one of these.

... "bought and made in Scotland" but this is a great replacement! as an english tourist described one once
lost my original "bought and made in Scotland" but this is a great replacement!as an english tourist described one once, 'it's a spoon without the spoon part!'basically for stirring porridge, but can be used for anything that doesn't require vigorous agitationhandy addition to kitchen utensils

Splinters in your porridge!
good as a quirky gift but I wanted it for my own use. Practically it is very rough and splinters when washed. My friend has one-and I was well impressed by it, she uses it to make sauces etc. So I set about searching for one on the web and found this. obviously my friend's Spurtle is smooth and practical (probably more expensive)I will try and get it sanded as it is not much use as it is. So although cheap enough to throw away, it is disappointing.

These were much better than I expected.
These were sent to expats in Australia and they were delighted with them. They made proper porridge as previously they were forced to use the poor substitute, a wooden spoon.

Oatmeal Spurtle
This beautiful Spurtle is made very well and is certainly giftable. There is the traditional Scottish Thistle burned into the end of it. Very classy. This utensil is for stirring soups but most especially for stirring oatmeal!!

Cute thistle top on this spurtle, and its shape ...
Cute thistle top on this spurtle, and its shape is such that it doesn't fall into the porridge pot. What an invention - no more lumpy oats :-)
