Is there padding to protect the car seat?

no there is not really any padding. its like a rucksack material. I wrapped the car seat in bubble wrap. You must make sure you cover any sharp/sticking out bits otherwise the bag will rip - all these car seat covers seem the same.

Does it fit the maxi cosi cabriofix

It fits the Cabriofix Baby seat with the carry handle with loads to spare. Looks like it's designed to take the big heavy toddler seats you move em into when they are about one. Haven't tried ours though as it weighs too much to carry anywhere! Seems pretty tough and if you add a luggage strap to synch round middle you get an easy handle to complement the shoulder strap. Plus you can stuff a few spare toys in the seat when traveling with bucket airlines and rubbish weight allowances!

Does this fit the joie stages car seat?

This bag is huge it easily fitted my Joie i-size base and Joie i-Anchor advanced car seat. There was lots of room to spare so I put in some towels and some soft toys too and there was some room to spare. I did find it awkward to carry when I had to. I have recently purchased another ruck sack type bag (available on Amazon) which is also very large, orange in colour and would easily fit this seat in, but is not as big as this bag. I would out of the two prefer the ruck sack one as it’s easier to lift and carry with two padded adjustable straps and fragile printed on.

How do you attach the shoulder strap?

The bag has two clasps to attach a should strap. Obviously depending on what you put in the bag, it can get a bulky and not the easiest to carry. This is however a decent bag. Served us well for 4 trips.
