Makita BO4556/2 220-240V Finishing Sander
The Makita BO4556/2 220-240V Finishing Sander Is an excellent product, which is no real surprise, has Makita’s build quality is beyond reproach. It does exactly what it’s designed to do. I’ve used this many, many times and it’s still going strong and looks like new. Brilliant sander.

This Palm Sander is the most effective and comfortable to use. Brilliant.
I bought this as a replacement for an old sander and it is a much better bit of kit and easier to use. The vibration is not nearly so stong which makes holding it more comfortable. It comes with a few sanding sheets but I bought some rolls of different grade sandpaper from Amazon anyway. The rolls are about 115mm wide so perfect fit, you just have to cut the length, fit to the sander then push the template through it to make the holes. It was so easy, I've cut lots of pieces of sandpaper ready to fit as and when I need them. I've used it to sand down a window sill and my husband used it on the garage door and both ended up with a great finish. Sanding down is a job I do not look forward to but it was no problem at all, in fact is was so powerful that the job was done really quickly. The dust collection bag is not great and you will still get quite a lot of dust but all sanders are like that and it's better on than off. I would definitely recommend this sander.

The best quality
I had a bosch sander and I always struggled to get a good quality finish, but this makita is so high quality and easy to use. It saves me time and effort. The finish on the wood is so professional and neat. My only regret is not buying it sooner!

Makita BO4556 Palm Sander
I must firstly admit that I'm a bit of a Makita fan having bought quite a few of their tools. This palm sander was purchased to replace a very tired old "cheap no name" machine of the same size that has come to the end of its useful working life. When first unpacked I was delighted at the solid feel of the Makita and was soon cutting lengths of sandpaper to try it out. This version of the Makita palm sander uses the flip over spring system of fastening paper which, although a bit fiddly, holds the paper securely. You also get a simple plastic tool that punches the paper so that the inbuilt dust extraction system works. This punch is extremely easy to use. The dust bag fits easily and quickly and is not obtrusive when the machine is in use. Palm sanders of this size are extremely useful for many jobs and invaluable, for example, when sanding stairs where a larger random orbital sander has been used which cannot get into the corners. The high speed of the Makita gets the job done quickly, leaves a good finish, and is comfortable to handle. The power cord is a bit on the short side which means that you have to trail an extension lead around - but this is common with many tools of this type. I have not awarded the machine five stars for two reasons. Firstly: If, like me, you suffer from arthritic fingers the spring paper retaining system [whilst very effective] is a bit awkward to use. To solve this I have since bought a replacement pad for the sander [as fitted to the Makita BO4555] that uses Velcro to hold the paper in place - slightly more expensive in terms of sandpaper but easier to use. Secondly: Palm sanders are all notorious for their ability to create dust, even when their dust extraction systems are fitted, and the Makita is no exception. Whilst the paper punch is simple to use it only makes very small holes in the paper which does not allow the bag to catch as much dust as it could. On many sanders you have an option to connect them to a workshop [or home] vacuum cleaner which is far more effective but, for some reason, the Makita does not have this facility as standard. This is an unfortunate oversight and, in my eyes, has helped it to loose one star. Would I buy one of these sanders again? Yes, definitely! The quality of build is excellent, it is extremely efficient in use, and very easy to hold and control, and it will probably outlast me. As a DIY tool it's great and well worth the premium price over lesser "budget" machines.

Very good. Easy to use and effective for small to medium sanding jobs
This is just powerful enough to deal with furniture, doors, stairs and other small surfaces. It might take a bit longer than a more powerful orbital sander on Medium sized surfaces, but it's very good for it's size. Easy to load with sand paper - the clips are not difficult. Easy to hold. Really good for the price. I don't think I would've needed to spend more.

Good Palm sander
Love this tool, I use it for upcycling furniture projects mainly, its easy to use, easy to empty, easy to fit new paper and comes with a plastic punch to create the necessary holes to allow and dust to be drawn into the collection bag. The cable is good quality and of reasonable length, the base fits the normal rolls of abrasive paper in DIY shops so only one cut is needed to get a good fit. The switch means that you dont need to squeeze any trigger during use, Wear a mask and ear protection with this it is loud and still puts out a lot of dust very quickly.

I didn't write a review for this until I'd used it for about a year, but now that I put it through a lot of use and it's still working great I wanted to take the time to say it's very well made and does a good job even after it's not "new" anymore. I can really notice a difference between the amount of dust left on the board and around the work area by using the dust collector bag. It seems to help a lot and it's not a hassel to empty the bag either. It doesn't seem to require a perfectly fit piece of sandpaper if the piece you're using is a little more narrow than the width of the bottom of the sander it still works good. The vibration is not bad at all and it's not irritatingly noisy either. Just a nice little handy sander to have around to use.
