Route to contentment
I am a technophile but am not a techknowitall. I love gadgets and love them the most when they are simple to set up and use, and deliver what they promise. The Belkin N750 fulfils all of my criteria.I cheated completely on this. I have neither BT infinity nor a cable connection (which the box states this is designed for). I have been using my Sky modem router with a Netgear Rangemax (great in its heyday, now seriously out of date) piggy=backed onto it simply by connecting it into one of the LAN ports usually meant for a PC or laptop. The sky router fed the signal to the Netgear, which then spread it about my house. This worked well initially, and over the last year the efficiency of the Rangemax has decreased considerably. This is, I think, completely due to the proliferation of wireless, bluetooth and wifi enabled gadgets in the house.I took a chance that the Belkin would piggy-back successfully in the same way -and it did!I now have a reliable and fast wifi signal throughout the house and down to the bottom of the garden (maybe 40 yards from the Belkin), and video and music streaming has improved immeasurably. Media streaming is what this router was designed for, and it does the job well. My Internet radio finds stations very quickly and there is no break in playback -as there was frequently with the old router.Set up was simplicity itself. I was up and running within 5 minutes. No hardwire connection to a computer needed -with the installation disc in a laptop, full control of the unit is done wirelessly. It provided me with a main network, and a guest network, each with their own passwords. The guest network allows internet access only and no possibility of control of the unit or other networked equipment. Great for kids and their freinds.I have to admit to ignorance and that I don't fully understand all the techie stuff that other reviews go on about. What I can tell you is that this router does what it claims to do, it looks good, with (thankfully) understated lighting -one blue LED- and is a cinch to set up -very little technical knowledge needed. How refreshing!Very highly recpmmendedAA

Exceptional router for the price
While I’m normally pretty technologically literate, WIFI and networks is something I've always struggled with, and have had on occasion difficulty setting up. Not however the case with this router, it was incredibly easy to install, plug it in, connect your computer to it, download updates, scan for internet connection and done! The installation wizard does it all automatically and really makes the whole process hassle free.In terms of speed and connection it is very fast, able to support streaming in HD as well as online gaming without any lagging. I have been able to use multiple devices at the same time with quite internet intensive activities without a huge drop off in speed, and thus far it hasn't dropped a connection once. I only live in a relatively small apartment, so its harder to comment on its range, however it is strong enough to connect to my phone from my complexes lift, which is quite some distance away and is usually a dead zone for all signals.Very impressive little router for the price. Fast, reliable, stable, far reaching and easy to install. What more can you ask for!

Problems but was it the Belkin?
I recently acquired this router to operate along with a Draytek Vigor 120 ADSL2+ modem. BT has upgraded our local exchange to ADSL2 but so far I have not enjoyed any speed increases. There was a doubt that my old modem/router might not support ADSL2 hence the upgrade. I am not a technical person but I have dabbled with computers and home networks for many years and consider myself to be in the "semi knowledgeable amateur" category. Set up went flawlessly and I had everything working in one evening including two wired PCs, a couple of network printers and a networked hard drive plus umpteen wireless devices including laptops, ipads, smartphones etc.I still had no speed increase and have been trying to get something done about it via BT's completely useless Asian based support network. They announced that they had adjusted some setting and all would be well but after a few days I found that I was unable to access some websites including Microsoft.com and more importantly my internet banking (important when you run a business from home!!) This involved calls to various support centres including BT, Belkin and Draytek. The man at BT announced that my kit was incompatible and he would send me a BT Home Hub. He did not want to listen that the equipment I had was better than anything BT use!Now my internet connection vanished altogether. A call to Belkin established that the modem was not connecting to the internet. The modem was then connected to one PC rather than the router and a call to Draytek sorted out the connection and the internet was restored. Hooking the modem back to the Belkin, the router would not see it and so we had no networked internet connection. I decided to try restoring factory settings which did not help. I then decided to uninstall the Belkin software and start again reinstalling everything. Unfortunately the uninstall/re-install did not work properly as the setup program hung. I then tried restarting my PC in safe mode and then uninstalled the Belkin software again. This time it worked flawlessly as did reinstall and happily, I am fully restored after a day and a half of muttered curses! One little glitch was that the intial setup came up with everything using 192.168.x.x ip address but on re-installation I got 10.0.0.x addresses. This meant giving all my static IP address devices new addresses - more fiddling with manuals to remember how to do that! Now, I don't know what caused the problem. Was it BT or the N750 or the modem? My money is on something BT did causing an initial problem which my amateur efforts to fix probably exacerabated. Everything has been back up without a hitch for 48 hours now but good old BT still have not delivered my higher speed connection. As for the router itself, the web based software is simple to use and relatively self explanatory even for accountants pretending they know something about computers. As mentioned, some of my devices have static IP addresses - network printers, etc. It is not obvious how to deal with this but I simply restricted the IP addresses for use by DHCP to 10.0.0.2 - 10.0.0.50 and have allocated static address above that. One issue I have with the Belkin is that it only shows devices connected via DHCP and there does not appear to be any way to show all devices connected including those with static addresses. For anyone who requires this, there is an excellent little free app for ipad/iphone called FING which is excellent for sorting out details of what is connected. One design flaw is that the cable connections at the rear of the unit are recessed and at least for my pudgy fingers, makes it really awkward get access to depress the tab on the patch cable plugs to release them. Its not a problems if everything is working as you would not normally need to touch them but it was annoying when I was having to disconnect cables regularly when fixing my problems.I have a fairly large house and there is no problem with signal strength even at the furthest points from the house. Throughput speeds are excellent and I have had no issues streaming HD video to my laptop. All in all this seems a lot of router for the money and my problems might not be/are probably not its fault. On the other hand they could have been due to some incompatibility. I don't know! Finally, by far the best help line was Draytek's and I will bear that in mind when buying kit in the future.Update 4 September 2012: The problems outlined above were all, as suspected, down to my ISP and the Belkin has worked flawlessly since BT corrected the problem at the exchange. It probably still merits four stars because of the awkward access to disconnect cables and because of some deficiencies in the software - no way to view all connected devices rather than just those connected via DHCP and other similar omissions. The router is very, very fast and was connected and stable, the issues I have outlined are pretty nitpicky. I have no problem in recommending this to anyone.
