Very nice book
I brought this for my husband. This is a very nice book and I think will help him to take a break and do a little sketch and explore things around him as the areas we commute around have some lovely spots of nature and architecture as he is a fantastic portrait artist but hates doing detailed backgrounds. The pages are also thick and ideal for being able to draw in with pencil or pen. He hasn't used it yet ..... he said he would........It's been nearly 3 months....I told him to please use it when I gifted it to him. It's currently sitting where he puts his keys with a pencil and band tied around it as a subtle hint to bring it with him to use. I will be sending him the link to this page and asking him to read the reviews so he makes a start on it, an indirect prompt. You have 7 days or I will steal this and use for myself. No take backs, you sketch in pencil but I am a ink pen doodler ( my marking are final) this is your warning

This is a fun book for everyone.
I have already reviewed the companion book to this one - 'My Day in Small Drawings', and the same comments apply to this little volume too. The style is the same, examples drawn by the author on pages with room to draw anything and everything; if you're longing to draw, or are a bit shy of having a go, or even if you are a consummate and well-known artist, you will enjoy this ; the whole family and/or friends can join in and leave their mark in the spaces provided; looking through the drawings later can provide hours of amusement for all. In years to come it will qualify as a family heirloom, believe me. Children too will be able to laugh at and enjoy their early efforts. This is a book for families, friendship, memories. I highly recommend it, for oneself or as a gift to be treasured.

Great inspiration for budding artists out there!
It is a great little book which gives you lots of confidence to try out sketching. I wouldn't recommend for anyone who is already sketching and painting regularly. The book is hard to "prop open" as it is quite tightly bound. I like it though

A fantiastic for getting started or re-starting a creative practice
A brilliant book, highly recommended! Perfect book for getting started or developing a creative habit. The introduction of the book the author lays out how to use the book in such a way to remove doubt, or barriers. For me this book is about eliminating the barriers to starting, and enjoying being creative (again), it’s not so much about learning skills or techniques to create a masterpiece, but 'marking marks on paper' not what's right or wrong but developing a habit, starting the process and enjoying it. The ideas and suggestions for what to draw are brilliant, as are the authors drawings which really inspire. Each section gives ideas and suggestions of a subject to draw (for example…..), with the next 3 pages containing small squares to add you own drawings on the theme/subject. I have used some of the suggestions in the book to get started, but have been drawing in a separate sketchbook so I review my progress as I go (I can never bring myself to draw in books), the book in itself is great reference and for the advice contained regarding each particular subject is inspiring. Since starting on this book I have noticed so much. Really seeing the detail in every days items you are trying to draw, and in your surroundings. Sitting down for 20 mins to sketch something is really calming and focusses your mind. I’m not a ‘colouring in the lines’ type of person, but I love sketching something that roughly resembles what I’m drawing and seeing it come together, its not about perfection but the process. I bought a basic set of drawing pencils and colouring pencils, or just use whatever you have to start with. I have also been looking at other how-to drawing books to learn shading, composition, etc, as I improve and continue. A great book, my thanks to the author for reigniting something in me which has long been forgotten.

Beautiful inspirational book and really gets me drawing and appreciate life's little moments
Lovely beautiful little book full of fun and inspirational ideas. I have always loved drawing and painting but often gets put off by the thought of tackling a masterpiece at the end of a long day. As I get through my day, I often thought I would love to draw this and that but never really found the time to actually do it. This book encourages tiny drawings that don't require huge amount of time and effort. I find this tip tremendously helpful. I got the book today and quickly produced over a dozen drawings of things and people that sparked joy in me. The only negative thing I would mention is that the book is tiny. It is much smaller than I had expected. The boxes for drawing are tiny too. So I had to find really sharp pencils to use and it took me a little while to get used to the tiny scale.

This book is the PERFECT gift!
I LOVE this book - it's so warmly written and approachable, with clear, helpful and interesting guidance on what and when to draw the things you see around you. It's perfect to help build confidence through regular drawing without worrying whether it is 'good' or not. Ideal for beginners because it is not intimidating or teachery and encourages looking, observing and enjoying mark making. A perfect christmas or birthday present for a budding artist, someone who would like to learn to draw but is not sure where to start or what equipment they will need or even someone who has not drawn for a while and would like to build their confidence again.

A wonderful way to begin to see like an artist
saw this interesting book in museum in Europe; was intrigued by the concept of drawing in an easy format. This helps me to learn to SEE - and the intro allows the artist to feel at ease at whatever may show up in the boxes for the season. Divided into the four seasons - with 'suggestions' but the author is savvy enough to allow everyone to do their own thing - just draw. I'm loving it and actually intend to pass it onto my grandson as a memento of his granny! Great design; compact and easy to carry - lovely gift idea for any aspiring artist.
