Q: Does the baby need to keep its hand still for 45 sec?

Depends. If you use really warm water then yes. I used lukewarm and it set much faster. Yiu will see the color change, when it is pink instead of purple it's ready. It feels like jelly. Just be careful don't use cold water, as it sets before you can put the hand in- I made that mistake the first time. If you do it while the baby is sleeping then you have no problem with king it in for about 30 seconds
