Ditch your heavy impractical hoover for this lightweight monster!
It's light, durable, easy to fit but don't let the price put you off. Although these hoovers are a little on the expensive side, I have been very impressed since buying it and seeing if it was worth the money. Having a pet cat I chose the 'animal' option hoover and i've been very impressed since. This is a well designed hoover, took no longer than a few mins to put together with the small additional attachments easy to store in a place that won't take up too much space. The performance is really good, even sucks up small pieces of polystyrene with ease it doesn't leave you going over the same spot countless times as with other hoovers. Moving in tight corners isn't a problem due to the flexible rotating ball that allows you to manoeuvre in awkward places. It has a switch to move between hard and soft floor settings and it's lightweight frame makes hoovering the stairs very easy. The only downside I would say is the lack of a bigger area for the rubbish to collect. If you have new carpet you will make many trips to empty the cylinder but it's so easy and not at all messy that it isn't annoying.Overall, well worth the price, I would definitely recommend.

light and still does the job
when I unpacked the dc40 I will admit I was very disappointed with it as I already own a dc 15 which is a heavy duty machine and does the job amazingly well but it is getting slightly old now so needed updating. Putting it together was very simple, on first use I still wasn't convinced it seemed light and flimsy. The following morning I used it to do the whole house and I took back everything I said yes it is light but that is a big plus to the one I already own, it is very powerful the lead is long so I can do all 3 rooms upstairs without unplugging, the hose is long so I can reach into the corner of the ceiling. The only minus about this machine is the stair tool, it is not good at all on my old one the stair tool turned so no matter where you were on the stairs it was always easy to clean this one doesn't which is a pain. This is an excellent machine and would highly recommend

Update Not impressed
First dyson ever used as always thought there to pricey But after buying vax and other types of hoovers which only last less than a year, thought we would spend a tad extra and try one and so far not disappointed the suction is great and the fact you can just easily pull the handle out and attach a Tool is soo easy to do the stairs without the need to pull this out and connect this, its just one thing its great. And it does reach the top step which is the last step before the landing with Dyson at the bottom of the stairs. and the Dyson is ever so easy to clean and remove things caught in it and the brush bar is very nice and easy to remove all the hair its caught.very impressed so far But only had it a couple of months so lets see if it out lives a year and keeps the suction.Update:- well after 5 months of use this has Lost all the suction it had, now it wont or has a very hard job to pick up cat hair let alone any large bits on the floor.we have cleaned it, took it all apart (what we can) and gave it a good clean and still the same, pretty bad actually for a hoover to be 5 months old and lost basically half the suction power it had.going to see if i can return and get some other type of hoover as have had 10 times better hoovers at a fraction of the price, but first Dyson and thought we would give it ago.Beware this seller only gives 30 day warranty after that you have to call Dyson for repair which will work out costly

A great vacuum if not a little ungainly
We've got a small flat in central London so were initially considering the DC50, as it's quite a bit smaller. However, after playing with the two models in John Lewis we ultimately went with the larger model. The build quality of the DC40 is much better than the DC50 (which felt cheap and flimsy). So far I'm quite happy with my purchase - it's easy to use, powerful and (as with all Dyson products) nice to look at.Two minor comments:1 - the extension hose is quite stiff (as everyone has said) and is only really good for vacuuming things above your head. If you want to use it to vacuum the baseboards you have to contort yourself into a giant letter "K" to hold the machine in place with your foot while you angle the tube over your shoulder and back down to the floor. If you don't do this a) the machine chases after you and kicks you in the ankles and b) the tube bends itself in half and you lose all suction. This would be easily fixed if there were brakes and if the base of the tube, where it attaches to the machine, was on a hinge so it could come out at an angle other than vertical...2 - it can be a bit wobbly when vacuuming in tight spaces. They've put a lot of effort into making the roller ball dynamic and easily steerable, which it definitely is. However, as a consequence it feels a bit like driving a wobbly Ferrari at 9000 rpm when you've only just pressed the "on" button. In short, it needs stiffer suspension.Overall stil a good buy though, and definitely the better choice if you're considering the DC50.

Brill bit of kit. Recommended
I have 2 non moulting mutts- or they own me more to the point. They adore their daily walks in the park where their fur collects mud, pine needles etc. My old vac was doing a good job keeping on top of this but I noticed that the house was beginning to bear the unmistakable aroma of mans best friend. A friend recommended the Animal Dyson. I like Mr Dyson so I thought I would give this vac a test drive and see for myself. Its good, very fancy (feels a little flimsy but must be tough enough for the job) easy to steer, etc. I found the button thingy on the top of the dust box is pressed harder to empty the dust only after I dumped it on the kitchen floor I had just cleaned but you learn something new every day! This Dyson is really helping filter out the doggy smells. My only gripe- the day after it arrived, it was advertised on offer at Currys for £80 less than I paid for it on Amazon- bit of a bummer really.
