You need one.
Being a long time owner of the PS5 the firmware that gave us NVME m.2 SSD upgrade was much needed. Giving us that extra space gave us faster load speeds. When I first got my NVME SSD I thought maybe the PS5 provides enough protection from over heating. I was wrong. So I have a Habit of doing Mass Transfers and copies to sort out which games goes on the faster Hard drive which is the most played games. I decided to transfer 7 games from the System Default storage to my shiny new NVME M.2 SSD. All was well, until I got the error encountered over heat screen which immediately shut down the PS5 and halted my transfer of 7 games all over 50gb per. Even while playing some games your get some stuttering of the SSD telling you it can't take any more heat.Since installation this beautiful dorsal fin heat sink. All the heat problems were gone. All of the stuttering I encountered before gone. Large transfers no problem. With it's large Dorsal fin design I'm guessing it takes the heat and spreads the heat away from the SSD and close to the surface of the case where the fan blows keep the heatsink regulated.I've had other heat sink do its job at a similar price. But this one was well design and thought out. If definitely looks like it belongs in there. Though replace the metal plate that covers the SSD it is not a big deal breaker to put it away for something that looks and feel right at home. You'll still need the same screw that you metal had but it's no big deal. I don't have any exact number but I can assure the stuttering stops and I haven't had a Over heat error since.Definitely worth the price. If and when I get my hands on another PS5 I'd get another. If you have a PS5 get one, it's easy to install. You will not make a mistake installing this. If I get a no contact thermometer I'll try to remember to update this with actual temps.

Perfect fit. Looks good. Wish it protected bottom of SSD.
This took a long time to ship but I finally got to give it a go.Things I like:Looks great.Fits perfectly. Is bigger than my prior heatsink.Very generous with the thermal tape. The case it came in is slightly reusable so I'll be able to keep the original PS5 parts, my old heatsink, and the leftover thermal tape in it.Things I wish were better:Wish it had an aluminum bottom plate that bridged with the top plate.Wish I didn't have to remove the original PS5 SSD guard/cover, or at least there were some way to keep the original attached somewhere. I may someday sell this and I'll likely want to remove the SSD and return it back to factory configuration, so I hope I don't lose the factory cover.Even though I've got some things I wish were better, it's still great so far so it's worth 5 stars to me. I'll update review if I ever have heat issues. I do have a plan to create a thermal bridge to the bottom of the SSD if I run into thermal issues, but I'll still want to complain if I have to do that.

Works Well but Did Not Come as Advertised
This is a PS5 heatsink designed to cool your SSD but also serve as the entire SSD bay cover. While it works for this purpose, there are some problems.First off, the obvious problem that I noticed when opening this, was that it was missing a variety of the advertised items. It was supposed to include a few M.2 standoffs and screws as well as a graphene thermal layer for the heatsink itself. All I received in my kit where a lot of thicker thermal pads, the heatsink, and a mini screwdriver. The standoffs, screws, and the graphene thermal layer where not included.Next, when setting this up, I was not quite sure how to make use of all the thermal pads or if I needed all of them, so I referred to the images in the listing about how to place them. However, that quickly went in a direction that would not work as the thermal pads were too thick to put more than one on the bottom or to even use on top, so this is how I did it:In order, I first put one of the longer thermal pads on the bottom of the SSD, then I installed it using the standoff and screw that comes with the PS5 since I didn't get any in the kit. Next, I had to use the thermal pad from my old SSD heatsink and apply it to the new heatsink since it was the only thermal pad thin enough that would fit. Using the included thermal pads simply were too thick and it would not close otherwise. After placing the thinner thermal pad from the other heatsink to this one, I was able to use this as the new PS5 SSD cover while still making contact with the SSD. It still felt a little tight, but not enough to make me worry. After installing the SSD Heatsink and closing off the drive bay, you may notice that on the bottom corner it is not entirely flush with the system body. I do not know if this is by design, if mine had a defect, or if this is due to my struggles to install this as it did take a minute to line up the heatsink in the locking groove for the normal SSD bay cover.Nevertheless, it worked as intended and I had no issues with thermals or any slow downs when transferring or playing games on the SSD.While I do like the idea of replacing the SSD bay cover with an entire heatsink based cover, just know that you may be missing items in the kit if you go in this direction. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Does a good job of keeping PS5 m2 cool
I had a few times where my PS5 shutdown in the middle of playing Madden and so I installed this PS5 m.2 heat sink. Installing it was easy and took about 5 minutes, most of which was messing with getting the covers off the PS5. Since installing I 've had no issues with any sort of heat issues.

Fits just right.
easy to install. Not sure how much more help its adding if any. good alternative to buy a smaller heatsink.
