Quality Carbide Turning Tools and REPLACEMENTat a Reasonable Price
Update: August 2025: Iโm still giving this 5 stars, but Iโm adding some useful comments. First, I did not originally realize they mistakenly sent me two handles instead of one handle and an extension. That was a great quality control error on their part as I now have one handle permanently setup for my round cutter and the other handle for the square. Second, I found very inexpensive sources on Amazon for replacement carbide cutters. ASIN B0CZDLBXX4 is for 10 each 12 x 12 x 2.5 mm round, and ASIN B078N649MJ is for 10 each 11 x 11 x 2 mm - R50 radius cutters with replacement screws. The R50 radius helps prevent the cutter from catching on the wood and destroying my pen blanks I now have two handles with replacement cutters and screws for less investment than what is typically sold as one carbide turning tool in woodworking catalogs. Very pleased with these purchases. Original review: I am just getting into pen making, and with all the costs associated with setting up my shop from scratch to build and finish pens, I was looking for ways to conserve cash. The WenCrew carbide tools were a cost effective way to get into carbide turning tools. I was initially reluctant to buy these because of the low price, but I figured I could return them if I found them to be substandard. I have been impressed with the quality of these tools. They are keepers. The one thing that would have made these better (for my application) would have been inclusion of a square carbide insert with a 2 degree radius instead of flat. As is, these are very satisfactory, and Iโve found reasonably priced round and radiused inserts on Amazon that will fit the handle. I would not hesitate to recommend these tools. With Amazon Prime free shipping and return policy, you can order a set and take a look before deciding for yourself. You get two aluminum handles, and there is an included adapter that enables combining the two handles into one long handle. Personally, for making pens, I find the individual handles to be of the right size. Everything in my set is well machined and fits snuggly together. The tools come in a very nice padded aluminum case. I am very satisfied with the performance.

Solid tools for both beginners and experienced turners
Iโve been using this set for a few weeks, and Iโm impressed with the quality for the price. The carbide tips are sharp right out of the box and hold their edge well, making cuts smooth and clean. I like that the handles feel sturdy and comfortable for long turning sessions. Changing the tips is quick and easy, and having all six tools covers most of my woodturning needs. Overall, a great value for anyone wanting a reliable set of turning tools without breaking the bank.

Blade and shaft very solid handle not so much
I do not think these are a good choice for beginners because the technique for use are different. Traditional chisels you need to learn to "ride the bevel" and this takes practice! These chisels you will use a different technique, tool rest at center line or slightly below tool at about 90degrees to the work piece. These carbide chisels are more scraping then shaving. If you get "off line" just at little they catch very easily big gouge or chip out of work piece. I recommend starting with traditional tools then incorporating these into your repertoire. Sharpening lathe tools is something of a skill set on its own, replaceable carbide is easier for sure, but learning to sharpen your own tools is always a good idea. CONSTRUCTION: The shafts and carbide tips feel very solid, you can feel this as soon as pick them up! The handle is aluminum: very light, for cap and shaft holder, threads are coarse, does not screw together smoothly for shaft holder and end cap. The shaft holder came loose in a couple minutes of use. this happened a few times. Tried a pipe wrench with rubber jaws to tighten it, still came loose. Finally put some Teflon tape on the threads this seemed to work. then the cap fell off the other end, Teflon tape there too. The handle is a little too small for my hand, but that is purely a personal preference. Grip tape may fix that! Overall, a decent set of carbide lathe chisels. A good first set to try to see if you like carbide chisels. They come in a fitted case that looks like something from a spy movie for carrying computer chips or Bio weapons. At the cost if just one or two fit your needs I say you come out ahead.

Great for Beginners - Would Recommend
Product has been working great. First, I love the case. I refuse to buy any tools that donโt have a case and this case is hard, durable, and easy to store with your other tools. Product seems very durable and I havenโt had any issues so far. Perfect choice for beginners. Has a very comfortable grip as well and allows you to adjust the shaft length. My cuts have been accurate and consistent. Make sure to tighten any screws down before you begin. Overall, Iโm very pleased with the ease of use of the product, the carrying case to keep everything organized, and the accuracy and function of the tools. Would recommend.

Excellent starter set
This is a nice set to get started with. Being carbide helps keep its edge so as a beginner, this is ideal. Not expensive and good quality. There are better sets but not at this price. I'm very happy.

Pretty nice set
I like this set, it seems pretty nice. All of the parts are well packaged in a nice case. If you think that you are going to to store the tools in the case then that is an added benefit. The tools themselves are well machined and the carbide inserts index nicely. Certainly an upgrade from the homemade set I previously made myself. The extendable handle is nice if you like a longer grip. I will probably end up using some hockey tape to get a better grip as the handles are a little slick. They are also a little light weight, so I will end up adding some weight inside the hollow handles. I am a little unsure about the strength of the potion of the handle with the set screws to attach each tool. It seems a little on the light side. I will update when I get a big catch to see how it holds up. All in all, pretty nice set.
