HP 301XL Tri-colour Original Ink Cartridge, High Yield

With all the controversy recently over HP and unbranded cartridges no longer working, and the sometimes poor quality of third party inks, I always think it's worth getting the originals. The printer we have is unfortunately one of those with a single cartridge for the cyan, magenta and yellow colours, and a second for black. This means that if you only use lots of blue, when that colour runs out you have to replace the whole colour cartridge, even if the yellow and magenta portions are still full. This is a failing of the printer design though, rather than the cartridge, and these cartridges are made to support that design, but unfortunately it does increase the overall cost compared to separate cartridges. What I like about the printer design, is that there is no inbuilt print head, and you get a new one built into every ink cartridge, meaning no messy blockages, failure and expense over time. The printhead in these cartridges, being official HP, is perfect, giving a perfect print, whether draft on plain paper, or best quality on glossy photo paper. The XL cartridges last us months, and if you don't print off that many pages, they're great value compared to the subscription based ink direct from HP. I would certainly recommend these cartridges over third party generic ones, and if you're not printing loads of sheets every month, over the HP subscription too. After a disappointing set of compatible cartridges from another listing on Amazon where the black didn't work at all, I was very pleased with these official cartridges. I do wish all printer manufacturers would allow 3rd party manufacturers to produce compatible inks for their printers that don't show up as being "counterfeit or empty", but that seems to be an industry wide issue. I always opt for the XL versions, no special reason other than laziness, just means we don't have to change them as frequently, and per oz of ink they work out slightly cheaper (unless there is a deal on the normal non-XL versions)

As with any tri-colour cartridge you have to change all of them together even if one colour has run out, but tghis is only a Tri-colour and not the 5 type so it's a bit more cheaper...This cartridge has about 2 times the amount of the normal and is till worth the extra cost and the fact if you print a lot you don't have to keep messing around changing the cartridge so often...The colours are ok if you use the right paper...in my case I found Kodak 280gms to be great....One tip...If you can remember what photos you have printed (write the main colour down on paper somewhere) you can get to use the cartridge till almost ALL the colours are used instead of wasting whats in the ones you have'nt used...As an example...I managed to get 20 A4 full colour prints from the normal cartridge so you can gestimate approx what these particular ones will deliver...Also...If you think you might going to print some photos and they are not a priority...WAIT...till you have a batch to do...because everytime you switch a printer on it goes through a priming stage wasting quite a bit of ink each time..Cheers

I always use HP ink and it is cheaper Thani used to pay in local shop which since closed despite me being a Very regular customer
