German for Beginners: 1 (Language for Beginners Book)

This really is the best book for beginners and it's a such a fast and fun way to learn the language. It's also brilliant for intermediate students who just want to remind themselves of the basics. I have bought so many of these books for friends, and my private students (the French and Spanish versions too), and they have all found them very helpful and not too heavy going. Everyone learns better with pictures and the ones in the book are amusing and informative. There are so many other books to choose from but this one is by far the best for immediate self learning. Suitable for any age from 4 up to 84!! It really is. If you just want to learn a smattering of German then this is the book to buy. It will teach you so much in such a short space of time and you can prepare yourself to immerse yourself into the German culture and make good acquaintances right away. Always important to make a good impression in a country you are visiting, and to learn common courtesies :o)

My ten year old niece has just begun to learn German at school and since I speak the language (although not without my own mistakes -we all have something to learn) I am giving her private tuition. This is a wonderful book;it is not too demanding of the learner,but not too 'leicht' either. The book is colourful and fun and the accompanying CD is most useful.I read through it initially and was very impressed.My niece and I have used it in our lessons and found it invaluable.It provides a solid basis for someone new to German,but is not frightening or overpowering.As a committed linguist I am a firm believer in making the learning of a foreign language fun and so I unreservedly recommend this book.

I use this course as a back up to my own materials. We are a 5 people group of the U3A and go very slowly as the students are elderly, but this book is a nice back up for what we learn and seems to be quite popular amongst the students. I just wish they book had more use of the 'Sie' (polite form for adults) in it, but understand it is meant for teenagers.....

Bought for a 9 yr old and she immediately studied it with interest. Recommend .

I could not have asked for a better book. It got me motivated to learn and now things make sense. It progresses step by step and knowledge is built through each section. I think this book is aimed at children, however I am an adult but I couldn't find a similar book for adults. Soon I will be travelling to Germany on business so I bought this book. It will help me say some basic things as well as a bit more. Is there a book like this for adults and/or one on business?

A good book for beginners, with animations appealing to a younger audience, not too difficult some useful phrases if traveling to Deutschland.

This is the 4 th time I’ve tried to learn German. It is so difficult but I’m actually making a bit of progress. This book is really meant for Junior school children but as a pensioner it is right for my level.

..........like me. As a sixty something trying to learn German I find this book at just the right level, it is not heavily biased towards grammar but gives helpful advice in everyday situations. I presume that basically it is aimed at youngsters, but it is colourful, well set out and makes learning fun. Well, almost. I have not yet tried the cd,but I am sure it would be useful for pronunciation. The service was very efficient, and the book was excellent value for money. I also have "Your First Thousand Words In German" in the same series and it augments the conversation and sentence construction with lots of useful everyday vocabulary.

Un outil qui enseigne avec humour les bases d'allemand - je l'ai acheté comme base/complément pour l'enseignement d'allemand aux adultes et mes enfants qui débutent l'allemand à l'école en profitent également. Les notions de base d'anglais pour les explications sont bien sûr utiles, voir nécessaires, au moins pour le formateur, mais l'apprenant bénéficiera des dessins. While this book was probably intended for kids and teens, it works well for adults, too. As a tutor of German and Spanish (they have the same book in Spanish), I find that my beginning students of all ages enjoy these brightly colored, amusing illustrations and the simple, practical text. A complete beginner can stick with the text as printed. With the help of a tutor, a somewhat more advanced student can discuss the situations pictured, the names of the many objects on each page, his or her own activities, and more. The audio CD is a great addition. To sum up: This book is a very fun introduction to a complex language.
