For years I have always managed to kill my house plants, to the point where I just stopped buying them. Turns out I was always OVER watering them, and the roots would then rot and die. This gadget is perfect to avoid this and likewise under-watering - no batteries needed, just put it into the plant soil, and it'll show you if it too wet, too dry, or just right - thats it! Literally that simple. Once used, give it a quick wipe with kitchen roll to clear any soil/moisture (and avoid rusting), then use as required. Your plants will give you an indication of not being quite right - such as floppy leaves, or turning yellow - this little device will let you know if you need to add or leave off the water - end of. It won't rescue every plant, but it'll give the majority a fighting chance - Cheap as chips and very reliable - for non-green fingered folk like myself! 100% worth a tenner

This is great if youre a plant person and really want to kniw more specifically when to water and when not to. The product is rather big and clunky so in smaller plants its probably.not ideal. However, for bigger potted plants you can easily hide it behind the foliage. The front has easily readable metrics so you dont need more instructions than that. Dry, moist and wet. It literally tells you when to water and when not to. It was quite cheap and it does feel quite cheap - However it does the job and seems pretty sturdy so thats all you need. It doesn't have batteries or anything, it works when the metal rod touches the soil and moves the needle depending on the wetness of your plant.

Oh I love this and do my house plants, I have also used it in the garden. How did I cope before having this? Oh yeah, plants that were either too wet or dry. Very easy to use and quite accurate.

With the Uk heatwave purchased this to ensure only watering where needed - I have 60 roses! Chose this as no batteries needed which in my eyes means less things to go wrong with the device as it will get a lot of use so if I need soil PH or other testing abilities I’d purchase something else for those. I’m using kitchen roll to wipe in between each test. It has been really accurate and quite surprising - areas of the garden I thought that would be dry were moist including some pots I’d been watering daily without needing to. Also discovered some very dry zones I wasn’t aware of. I have a mix of clay/chalk soil so moisture retention varies a lot. Really pleased with purchase, will save me time watering only where needed and do my bit to save water!

This gadget was useful for 6 months but despite meticulous care, it developed a complete and utter soil moisture sensor malfunction. What Possessed Me To Buy It I love plants. Unfortunately, I was not gifted with "green fingers." That’s why I bought the XLUX Soil Moisture Meter - I needed a technological translator to tell me if my Ficus was thirsty or just being dramatic. For six glorious months, it was a dream. My ferns were lush, and I walked around with the smug confidence of a person who actually understands the phrase "moist but well-drained." Then, the XLUX entered its "Goth Phase." Suddenly, every plant in my house was "Dry." I’m talking Sahara-at-high-noon dry. I’d read that the metal probes can oxidise, so I was a model citizen: I wiped it dry after every single use. I’ve inspected the tip for rust, and it’s as shiny as a new 20 pence piece. There is no physical evidence of decay - just a complete and utter loss of its will to live. Last night, I plunged the probe into my watering can. To my horror, I learned the water I had been supplying was apparently not wet! I understand people may have a difficult time trusting the word of someone who, by her own admission, has a poor track record with plants. But I have photographic evidence: the meter stays firmly on "Dry" even when submerged in a glass of water. To ensure this wasn't just a "user error" or a fluke, I conducted two cross checks. First I dried the probe thoroughly and placed it in a glass of water. Result dry. Then I did a Soil Cross-Check: I tested it in soil I had just saturated until it was muddy. Result: "Dry." I’ve checked the laws of physics, and I’m fairly certain the mud and the water in the glass should register as “wet”. Sadly, because I trusted this gadget more than my own common sense, a few more of my plants officially bit the dust. They didn't just die; they were drowned in a sea of good intentions, founded on the belief that they should be watered because the meter said they were parched. Possiedo già uno strumento di misurazione professionale elettronico a doppia sonda che funziona benissimo e fornisce molti parametri tecnici. Tuttavia, proprio a causa della sua complessità, richiede circa 5 secondi di attesa per ogni singola lettura. Avendo molte piante da curare, questo tempo totale diventava proibitivo ogni volta che dovevo semplicemente controllare se fosse il momento di innaffiare. Per questo motivo ho deciso di acquistare l'igrometro XLUX, completamente analogico e senza bisogno di batterie. Devo dire che si è rivelato un acquisto azzeccato: confrontandolo con il mio strumento digitale, i valori di umidità sono estremamente precisi. La scala colorata (rosso, verde, blu) è intuitiva e rende la lettura immediata: quando la lancetta è sul rosso, sai che è ora di dare acqua. La caratteristica vincente è la velocità: la misurazione è praticamente istantanea, il che mi fa risparmiare tantissimo tempo. Alcuni consigli per un utilizzo corretto: La sonda va inserita nel terreno per circa un dito. È fondamentale pulire bene la sonda con un panno prima di ogni singola misurazione per mantenere l'affidabilità nel tempo. In conclusione, se cercate uno strumento pratico, economico e molto affidabile per una misurazione rapida dell'umidità (per capire subito se innaffiare o meno), questo prodotto è la soluzione ideale.
