Run All Night [DVD] [2015]

Another action movie by Liam Neeson, which is entertaining, if a little silly. Fine Friday night viewing.
We've seen Liam Neeson in a lot of these movies since the excellent first Taken movie. It's incredible he is still playing a tough guy at nearly 65. This film also has the excellent Ed Harris as a bad guy. The film involves a lot of action and shooting. It's all done quite well until maybe a slightly dumb ending. Of course you need to let the plot holes go a bit, but this is another very entertaining movie with Liam Neeson, which I enjoyed. Blu ray picture and sound are decent and if you don't have any of Liam Neeson's more classic older movies still to watch, then this is one of his better recent ones, as he keeps the action/tough guy image going and it didn't do too badly at the box office. Of his lesser known films, I would give a western, Seraphim Falls, a go (also starring Pierce Brosnan) and a brilliant older British movie called Under Suspicion.

Fast paced thrills
Supported by good turns from its lead players, Run All Night is an enjoyable, fairly all action crime thriller.Jimmy (Liam Neeson) is an ex mob enforcer, Mike (Joel Kinnaman) is his estranged son who winds up in a spot of bother after witnessing a murder committed by Danny (Boyd Holbrook) who is the son of Jimmys former boss, Shaun (Ed Harris). You got that? Good. Jimmy and Mike barely get along but suddenly have to co-exist as they're being hunted down by nefarious characters. They'll have to run all night of course. The main players are put in place quickly and effectively then various brawls, shoot outs and car chases follow. You know the drill. The family (dis)connections bring a bit of heart to proceedings as well as we race along. In some ways it's fairly predictable stuff but that's the way it goes, it still ticks most of the right boxes for this sort of fare. The sights and sounds of a New York City night add to the atmosphere, there's good acting efforts across the board and the action is tightly put together. It adds up to a fast paced, entertaining ride - recommended.

Don't mess with l.Neeson
Neeson is the same 'retired' tough guy as his character in Taken. This time he is protecting his son, not his daughter. It's all been done before. The action scenes are brilliant, however the story is sub-standard, and the script is obvious/poor e.g. " Should've killed me while you had the chance."In conclusion its worth watching if you have nothing else to watch.4 or 5 / 10

Good night in movie
Very good thriller which delivers on all fronts as you would expect from Neeson and Harris.Beautifully shot New York scenes also. Not quite sure what Nick Nolte was doing in a sort of cameo.Perhaps the director wasn't either as in the deleted scenes it shows hia part was heavily cut and some dialogue changed. This may have been to move the film in a slightly different direction .I don't know.Still all in all a great movie.Taken 3 could have used being toughened up to this level.
