How does it charge? USB?

The sender unit may have previously been rechargeable but now it uses 2xCR2032 batteries. I'm a bit annoyed as I used the previous review as the deciding factor to buy this item! Expected battery life of sender unit is about 3 months, although I haven't used it for that length of time yet to verify.

Is the backpack waterproof?

The back pack is not waterproof at all, it is a excellent lightweight pack for dry days

Could this be used on a road bike? If so, where would be the best place to mount the control?

Yes, it can be used on any type of bicycle, the controller should be placed close to your hand
