The Official Cambridge Guide to IELTS Student's Book with Answers with DVD-ROM

I'm a professional ESL teacher. I bought this book to help my students. The CD contains all the audio and video. Note that the technology it depends on is a bit dated. To make it work, you will need to install AdobeFlash 11. Since AdobeFlash has been discontinued, you will have to find the legacy program from a trustworthy archive. Conversely, you can extract the files in some other way you see fit.Regarding the textbook, this is a very complete product. 400 pages. Full color. Nice, thick, semi-matte paper. The first 153 pages are dedicated to each aspect of the exam. The general and academic papers are covered separately. Next, there are 8 full-length practice exams. However, it does not specify whether they are for the general or academic papers. On examination of the texts, I would say that they are a mixture of the two. So, ideally, I would use these to get the students acquainted with the format and the skills they need to develop and I would supplement with the Cambridge past papers that are specific for each track, academic or general, that are widely available for purchase on Amazon. It goes without saying that the audio scripts and answers are included, which makes it ideal for self-study. Have the students self-assess each practice paper and use the contact hours to address questions they have and clarify the mistakes they have made.My final takeaway is that this is an excellent worktext (textbook/workbook combo) to have in your arsenal to teach the IELTS class.

It was very detail and easy to understand with practice tests and reference materials. I passed with a band score of 8 on first sitting. I highly recommend this when preparing for either the Academic or General IELTS exams.

I have completed the Listening and Reading sections so far. Overall, this book has been very useful for my IELTS preparation. It helped me understand the structure of the exam, become familiar with different task types, and significantly expand my vocabulary. As a B2-level learner, I found the texts challenging, probably closer to C1-C2 level, which pushed me to improve my English and develop stronger reading skills.However, I expected more from a Cambridge publication. I noticed a few typographical errors, which was surprising for a book of this level. The multimedia app was not available on Android, so I had to use it on my iPad, which was inconvenient. In addition, some of the audio tracks appeared to be mixed up at the beginning.I also encountered several tasks that felt unnecessarily confusing. In a few cases, I needed help from ChatGPT to understand the logic behind the exercises. Interestingly, both ChatGPT and I sometimes arrived at the same answer, only to discover that the answer key provided a different solution. This led me to question the clarity of some questions and explanations.At times, the progression of the exercises also felt slightly disorganised. I occasionally completed a task independently, only to find that a later exercise was asking me to do essentially the same thing. While this may have been intentional from a pedagogical perspective, the structure was not always clear to me as a learner.Despite these criticisms, I enjoyed working through the book. The content is intellectually stimulating, the practice materials are valuable, and I feel that my English has improved considerably as a result. My overall impression is that the methodology is strong, but the presentation and quality control could have been better. It feels like an excellent concept that was not polished to the standard I expected from Cambridge.

The book is good in self prep.It has the rare advantage of self tutor for both academic and general ielts coaching and lessons.

This book is a gem for anyone who already knows English and wants to familiarize themselves with what the IELTS exam looks for,it is loaded with very important tips as you go by,is divided by section to teach you each of the sections separately,has10 practice tests,has answers to check back and see what mistakes you made hence become conscious of those mistakes and comes with a CD for the listening and speaking test,I made a good choice and I passed my IELTS with an overall of 8out of 9 and even got 9 out of 9 in the reading! And I did it all with just this one book.I would recommend this book any day for students who already speak English and are looking to excel.

Ce livre m’a été d’une grande utilité pour la préparation de l’examen. Il est facile à prendre en main et balais tous les cas de figure. Je le recommande vivement, car l’ensemble des conseils sont efficaces et le jour de l’examen je me suis sentie en confiance du fait que le cadre m’était familier. Il y a au moins 10 tests blancs, ce qui est beaucoup et généreux. Avec un peu de rigueur, on peut facilement se préparer tout seul et s’éviter les stages intensifs hors de prix. Les tests proposés sur internet sont également plus chers et pas forcément plus pédagogiques ( moins synthétique, moins d’exercices) Pour ma part, je suis ravie de cet achat et le recommande vivement.
