Great
Marked as used but in tip top condition, just not in cardboard wrapper. Great light, usual Maglite quality.

intense light for an AA powered torch, like what you would expect of a lithium powered torch
This is by far the brightest AA torch I've used and it is substantially brighter than my much older 4 'D' cell Maglite LED flashlight, which I purchased when Maglite first introduced its LED range. Indeed the instruction manual warns not to shine the light into anyone's face, saying it could cause retinal damage. It has a lower intensity setting that is activated by aiming the torch directly downwards before switching on and in this mode it is not far off the intensity of that 'D' cell Maglite.Unsurprisingly, it did not take long for me to run down a pair of batteries running it on full power. When the batteries are weak, the light intensity drops off to its lower intensity mode. However, once the torch is switched off, it will not switch back on until either the batteries are replaced or the torch is left off for a few minutes for the batteries to recover a bit.As with my older Maglite, the instruction manual states "Do not use rechargeable or reusable alkaline batteries". It's not clear whether this specifically refers to rechargeable alkaline batteries or all rechargeable batteries. In fact, the main reason I bought this torch was so that I could use rechargeable AA batteries instead of the potentially dangerous lithium ion batteries many other high intensity torches use, particularly since torches tend to get a lot more abuse than other equipment that use lithium ion batteries. So far this torch seems to work fine using Ni-MH rechargeable AA cells.Going by a multimeter current measurement, the torch uses about 1.4A on high power and 0.12A on low power mode. Based on the high power measurement, this works out at roughly 1.5 hours runtime with 2100mAh Ni-MH cells and 2 hours with 2800mAh high capacity cells. In low intensity modes, this works out at roughly 17 and 23 hours runtime respectively. The torch gets warm after several minutes of use on high power mode, so likely will keep the hand warm in winter time use such as when out walking on a frosty night. In addition to twisting the head between floodlight and spot mode, the reflector head can be removed to operate in 'candle' mode. It lights up a room quite well with similar intensity to a 40 watt (cool white) incandescent light. The only drawback in this mode is that the LED is incredibly intensive to look at directly so it really needs to be positioned at a hight such as on top of a bookshelf or high cabinet to comfortably illuminate a room. The only real negative I have with the torch is that once the batteries are low, it cannot continue being used with progressively dimmer light like some other LED flash lights could do. Once the light dims when the batteries are low and it is switched off, it will not switch back on even when aimed downwards for low intensity mode for several minutes. So after a few more uses like this, it will likely not switch on again until its batteries are replaced. What I suspect is that Maglite did this to reduce the likelihood of batteries leaking.
