CME MIDI Thru5 WC 1-in-5-out MIDI Thru

This is midi thru box is affordable and I like that it’s expandable if you decide you want to use Bluetooth. The midi signals seems steady. I use it to send clock and start stop messages from a TR8s. Haven’t had a problem and can’t complain about the price for a 1 in 5 out thru box. I’m sure it integrates well with other CME products.

My stuff connects IMMEDIATELY to this blutooth receiver. I have to turn off a keyboard I keep across the room because it will wake from standby to make a 20 foot connection and beat out my sequencer. It's so frustrating that it works so well. Decades of terrible blutooth performance from Apple and Google and computer vendors. Of waiting an eternity for things to pair. Somehow these folks figured it out. I have an OXI One MK2 on the way. The dream of a fully wireless sequencer may be real. I'll let you know. Ok, let's cover the stuff they list below this box: Ease of Use: very easy to use. It's a fantastic six port midi hub that works fine. Noise: none. That said, I use usb power bricks that have a grounding prong. If you use a 3 prong usb power block, most USB noise goes away from noisy devices. They just aren't common. The included cable was short. This wasn't a big deal to me. I have a lot of usb-c to usb-a cables. Any of them will work. That covers it. It works great. The price is reasonable.

Worked right out of the box, connecting to my iPad. Would definitely recommend for a wireless MIDI option.

This woks great; much better than my older MIDI splitter. However, I don't like that it doesn't have an on/off switch for the input power. I solved that by buying and using an in-line USB-C switch.

I've been learning how to use MIDI for a while now, and ran up against the inevitable wall of learning that you can not just daisy chain each keyboards or synthesizers MIDI Out port to the next ones IN, and have your messages from the source device continue past the first destination. For that you need a MIDI Thru output, and many modern synthesizers have opted to not include one (though lots let you configure your Out port to act as a Thru instead). Pretty simple to build cheaply if you are handy with a soldering iron and can find a schematic, but it looks like prices are beginning to lower on premade options since I last checked, (was around $60-$70 I think) and it seems much more worth it to me than it used to. This is a neat little device that solved all of my MIDI routing to my hardware synths and controllers. You just insert the controlling devices MIDI Out port to the Thru boxes MIDI In, and you can broadcast the signal to 5 other devices at once. If you need more ports but already have one of these, you can easily daisy chain one of the Thru out ports to the In port of another box for 5 more connections. There is a way to upgrade the box to handle MIDI over Bluetooth, but I haven't tried that yet. Hardware cables are your best bet for lowest latency, but it is nice to have the option.

Cool little box that gets the wireless midi working and splits the signal. It took a bit of reading, trial and error but I finally got my BT foot controller to work wirelessly with the thru6 to send commands to the pedals and for ableton on a Mac to send clock sync to the pedals. Not quite sure if the group was saved for instant recall but the app had a readout in the group lane. However, I did have to take a pedal off of the thru6 because it would not receive commands through a 5 pin din to 3.5 cable with a 1/4” adapter. I have an mc6 coming and hope to just use it as a clock interface and omniport. There is a learning curve if you are unfamiliar with midi/bluetooth/tech but overall I am pleased. It does what it says it will do.

Love this thing. Does all kinds of stuff. Pretty much connects anything to midi. Have had no problems and do g need a computer

Great way to avoid daisy chaining and adding WIDI to my live setup... I can control all my vintage Synths from a tablet... it works awesome

L'alimentation était ma principale source d'inquiétude car ma Thru Box n'est pas branchée sur la prise Usb de mon PC. Inquiétude dissipée,le câble Usb fourni est branché sur une multiprise Usb (- de 10€) et rempli parfaitement la fonction que je lui ai destinée: déclencher les horloges Midi de 5 de mes appareils.Je suis ravi et espère que cette Thru box durera au moins aussi longtemps que la précédente- une Miditech/4 qui a fonctionné plus de 15ans. Je recommande.

Manchmal sind es die kleinen Helfer, die einem im Studio wirklich den Tag retten. Das CME MIDI Thru5 WC ist genau so ein Fall: unscheinbar, kompakt, funktional – und dabei schlichtweg unverzichtbar, wenn man mit mehreren Synths arbeitet, die zwar MIDI empfangen, aber keinen Thru oder Out bieten. Gerade bei Geräten aus dem Budget-Segment wie den beliebten kleinen Behringer- oder Korg-Synths (Volca etc.) kennt man das leidige Thema: MIDI rein ist kein Problem, aber weitergeben? Fehlanzeige. Und wenn man sich dann keine teuren Interfaces mit fünf oder mehr Ausgängen ins Rack stellen möchte, kommt der CME MIDI Thru5 wie gerufen. Technisch handelt es sich um einen klassischen 1-in-5-out MIDI-Splitter (kein Merger oder Interface), der eingehende MIDI-Daten ohne jegliche Verzögerung an bis zu fünf Geräte verteilt. Das funktioniert zuverlässig, ohne Latenz oder Timingprobleme, und auch SysEx-Daten oder MIDI-Clock werden sauber durchgereicht. Laut Hersteller arbeitet das Gerät mit MIDI-Daten bis 3 Mbit/s – in der Praxis also mehr als flott genug für alle üblichen Anwendungen, von einfachen Note-On-Befehlen bis zu komplexen CC-Verläufen und Clock-Signalen. Ich habe es unter anderem in Kombination mit einem CME U6MIDI Pro Router getestet – kein Problem. Ebenso läuft es hinter einem Arturia Keystep oder direkt am MIDI-Out eines Drumcomputers: Plug & Play. Die Stromversorgung erfolgt über USB-C, ein Netzteil liegt – wie heute üblich – nicht bei. Das beigelegte USB-C-Kabel ist allerdings mit etwa 30 cm mehr ein Alibi als ein echter Beitrag zur Studioverkabelung. Wer ein bisschen Ordnung im Setup will, sollte hier also direkt ein vernünftiges längeres Kabel einplanen. Ansonsten ist das Gehäuse aus Kunststoff, solide genug für den stationären Betrieb, aber sicher nichts, was man ständig herumwerfen sollte. Das Design ist unauffällig, aber funktional – alle Buchsen sind klar beschriftet, Status-LEDs signalisieren den Betrieb. Kritik verdient aber eindeutig die Produktbeschreibung des Herstellers – nicht wegen technischer Fehler, sondern wegen sprachlicher Entgleisungen. Begriffe wie „Blutungsmidi“ (wohl ein katastrophal übersetzter Versuch von „Bluetooth-MIDI“?) sorgen eher für Verwirrung als für Vertrauen. Hier wäre ein sprachlich versierter Texter dringend angeraten. Glücklicherweise tut das dem funktionalen Wert des Geräts keinen Abbruch. Für unter 40 Euro (zum Testzeitpunkt) bekommt man hier ein absolut zuverlässiges Werkzeug, das MIDI-Ketten wieder flüssig macht, ohne gleich ein neues Interface kaufen zu müssen. Für mich ist der CME MIDI Thru5 WC ein Paradebeispiel dafür, wie viel Mehrwert ein durchdachtes kleines Tool liefern kann – ganz ohne Schnickschnack, einfach gemacht für die reale Praxis im Studio.
