Is washing required after I brush my dog's teeth but before I brush my child's teeth?

I don't know about your child's but when I brush my doggo's teeth I put the  brush on a cup with water , then the paste, brush, and repeat , when we go to the vet she compliments about my dogs teeth, so I guess it's a good method with good results

Anybody used this on a cat? The brush looks way too big for a cat mouth.

Yes, these brushes would be too big for a cat's mouth.  Have a 50 lb. dog and she has a small mouth, but can
use these on her.  Don't think for cat, they would work.  Hope this helps!

How often do you brush your dog’s teeth?

Once a week if they'll let me. I found these to be too rough so I ended up changing to a soft baby/toddler baby toothbrush. If you're new to brushing your dog's teeth, I recommend putting them on a towel or blanket the counter or table. You might want to just get them familiar with it first. Once you put a little bit of dog toothpaste, and I stress dog toothpaste because baby toothpaste contain xylitol which is highly toxic to dogs, they are usually much more likely to allow you to brush their teeth. If you gently lift their jowels to expose their teeth it will make it easier to get to the sides. I give my dog's times of praise and talk them through the entire experience, but maybe I'm a little nutty that way lol. After I'm done brushing I will usually give them a little carrot chip as a treat or some people will use dental bones or treats for afterward. If their gums are sore you can rub a little oratene or something like that. It's the canine version of orajel. Hopefully those tips help!

Do you need to use dog toothpaste with these brushes?

I use poultry flavored toothpaste and my golden likes it. I let him taste a little initially on my finger, then on the brush, then I brush his teeth. He doesn’t love getting his teeth brushed, but I think the more I do it, he’ll get used to it. The toothpaste definitely made the difference.
