Seems good after a few days use. Great price (£99) for an RM class PSU
I picked up this Corsair RM850e shortly after Black Friday 2022 for £99.98 on Amazon.Corsair RM power supplies are well known as very good quality. RMe type seems to be a new, slightly more affordable version, and I needed to upgrade from an older, lower class and lower wattage Corsair PSU.Be aware that although the PSU unit has sockets for 4 SATA/PATA cables, only 3 cables come in the box – I checked Corsairs own product page and this is correct!? Extra cables can be bought from Corsair and other outlets. In the event, I only needed to use 2 of them, which will be the most that most people will need.Note that one of the SATA/PATA cables only has Molex power connectors on it (4 of them), which I found useful to power (via an adapter) an internal USB hub. The other two SATA/PATA cables have only SATA power connectors – one has 3 and the other 4.So far it seems quiet and good, and I've had no problems.

Second one I received worked!!!!!!
So this is the second I used and immediately was so much better.I will comment that this box was pristine compared to the previous one that was sent.Hooked it up using the same Type 4 cables from my Rm850x and it works perfectly.Same single fan spin on boot up and everything back to what I expect from Corsair.Watch out for Rm1000e's that have 100% fan speed from boot up which sound like low flying aircraft as this happened to me and took ordering a second to get one that worked properly

Noisy fan
I bought this PSU for a family PC build and upon installation and switch on I noticed a loud noise coming from a fan. I was initially not sure where it was coming from, so I ran a test on the CPU, GPU and case fans, which ruled all of them out. I then put my ear to where the PSU was installed and found this was the source of the noise and it was the loudest fan I have ever heard on a PSU, which are usually silent. I looked up the issue and on Corsair's forum there are others experiencing the same issue. I have now returned the PSU for refund and sourced a different branded PSU, as some of the comments on the forum suggested this was the start of the PSU failing, which I could not risk. I cannot recommend this product based on my own experience.

Angry hornet in your PC case
I wish i have read the other 1 star rewiews before I bought this PSU (especially one from MR T).I have upgraded my GPU and CPU so I decided to replace my Corsair 650W non modular power supply for this one.I keep my PC on my desk, quite close to my head when I'm sitting at the screen. It is important to me that my PC is silent when I'm browsing Internet or watching films. All of the fans (6 of them) in my case are almost inaudible (below 500rpm).Corsair RM850e has a start-stop fan which is off under low load and switches on when load/temperature inside of the PSU rises. Theoretically it should be ideal for me... but when this fan is on it sound like an angry hornet! It's not your standard whoosh of the fast spinning fan, it's like a sound a power transformer makes or a high power electrical line. This low rumble or buzzing is so annoying, also because the fan switches on and off quite frequently during even non gaming sessions, that I just had to return this Power Supply Unit and I will look for something else (most likely Be Quiet 850W Platinum even though it's over £20 more expensive).Or maybe this noise is "not a bug but a feature"? After all it is a Corsair so an angry ARRRRrrr from it is just a trademark? 😉

Probably the best low-cost modular 1000w PSU
It's well packaged and arrives with all the cables most people will need. As it's a more budget option relative to most PSUs in this wattage, most of the cables are not braided and so don't look pretty, but if you manage your cables properly you won't see them for the most part anyway.I'm aware some units of this model have issues with fan speed control, but mine worked fine.
