Outrageous, shocking, controversial and wickedly funny, the 'acid queen of stand-up' Joan Rivers hosts an hour of typically racy and waspish humour. Pausing only to savour the sound of jaws hitting the ground, the Daytime Emmy Award winner's legendary ability to make people laugh in spite of themselves including herself has made her one of the world's most loved and acclaimed stand-up comedians, and her unique talent is clearly on display in this hysterically funny show first transmitted as part of ITV's celebrated An Audience with... strand.

Classic Rivers
I had seen a few of the Audience With shows and among my favourites were, Billy Connolly, (which in my view is still the best one), Ken Dodd, both An Audience and Another Audience, Bob Monkhouse maybe and that was pretty much it. The Freddie Starr one was also totally outrageous and pure Freddie. The last great one. I didn't bother with any of the others, but having seen one moment of Audience With Joan Rivers on a Laughter File show one evening with Dennis Nordern, I had been curious ever since. I just got it now on dvd and I have to say, it was pure gold.Joan Rivers has long been a favourite of mine, the best comedienne around at that time and for a long time, acid-tongued, but honest and always hilarious. Incredible energy and delivery. What was strange and also funny was to see the so called celebrities of the time (1984) in the audience. What I didn't know was that they had done two with Joan Rivers. They had also done An Audience with Joan Rivers again in 2004, I think it was or 2006. I saw it on you tube, but I was watching the wrong one. It's just as good, but this original still ranks up there as one of the best that they did.Go get 'em, Ms Rivers!

Just absolutely hilarious
What can I say...Absolutely hilarious throughout, from start to finish, I laughed from the outset until I couldn't breathe. She was such a funny lady and she is still hugely missed. I've played this over and over since I bought it and it never fails to make me laugh. The disc arrived on time and in perfect condition. Thank you so much Amazon, you've done a great job.

Breathtakingly, achingly funny
This is no 'chicken soup for the soul', this is the kind of humour that the medical profession says we need for a healthy, balanced life. Laughs, the good old-fashioned type that start with a chuckle and then develop into a deep belly laugh, are generated at a dizzily paced rate. Thank goodness for the rewind button, it is needed to catch up on those bits we couldn't hear because we were bent double with laughter. An Audience with Joan Rivers is slick, professional, self-deprecating, provocative humour. The expletives are natural, every-day stuff so should come as no surprise to any modern audience. But be warned: you will ache from laughing so much, and at times it will be difficult to catch your breath!

Fab DVD, fault with DVD case.
Life long fan of Joan, so I am happy to have this DVD.The disc is ok thankfully but inside the box one of the grip arms that holds the disc was broken off and rattling around inside the box when the disc arrived(sealed).

THE LATE, GREAT Miss RIVERS CLASSIC " AN AUDIENCE WITH "
This T.V special, originally recorded & broadcast in 1984, has Miss Rivers entertaining a celebrity audience.Joan is at her very best & gives her all in a non-stop tirade of crude one-liners, celebrity slander and generally telling it like it is ... " allegedly ! " All her best jokes are here, though if memory serves me correctly, it has been slightly edited - my video tape of the original T.V transmission was worn out years ago from repeated viewing.A great shame that they DID finally have to " Close The Lid " on this very funny comedienne.

Laugh till you cry . . .
For a lot of us there are few people who can actually take our breath away with laughter. People like Barry Humphries a.k.a. Dame Edna Everidge - sometimes does it for me, Phyllis Diller could when she was at her best, and then there's Joan Rivers - usually whenever she opens her mouth and starts talking. And I'm pleased to say, this is one of those times when she really nails it. Just when you think that no one could have anything more to say on just about any contentious issue, along comes Joan to inform and update us all with her particular take on things. There seem to be no taboo areas for Joan Rivers and if she offends a few people by dropping the not so odd four lettered word to add further shock value, well most people just gasp, smile and crack up with laughter. She tells those people who groan or gasp too loudly to "grow up" . She's an adult entertainer assuming that her audience is also adult enough to deal with her particular ascerbic take on things. What she says about old people [while admitting in passing that she's one of them], gays, Jews, Julie Andrews, old friends and acquaintances, and just about everyone who might be in her audience, is very wicked and very, very funny. And then near the end she talks about why she does it and it's almost heartbreaking. . . but still kinda funny . . . she leaves you laughing. She not only someone who can make me laugh till tears roll down my face, she's someone who makes me feel grateful that there are still people who can poke fun at the world with such irreverance, as well as at themselves . . . and that it's all good.If you've seen her live you'll know just what I'm talking about. If you haven't seen her live then this is probably as close as it gets. It's a sensational DVD and I definitely recommend it as worth owning. Look at it when you need cheering up or when you just feel like some irreverant laughter or an asthma attack!
