I suspect this is not the right tool for the job. I'm concerned that there would be a terrible, terrible accident: this stove would make short-work of its user, given the flammability of that thatch atop something as thick as two short planks.
Please also bear in mind the person you're trying to help thinks that Manifesto Pledge is a spell for summoning furniture polish, and would serve as a functional toilet given the guaranteed U-turn of everything that comes his way. This stove is only completely idiot-proof, so would be unsuitable in this case.

Could this be stored in a very hot conservatory. Would anything melt?

As you know, conservatories can reach very high temperatures to the point of melting wood and even some humans. I would suggest you store this in a chest freezer when not in use.

Hi there. Our stove is coated metal on the outside (with a cast iron hob). Its robust and will tolerate being left out overnight as long as it's dried out afterwards. Long term, we don't advise leaving it out in the elements, since rust 'never sleeps' and will eventually degrade the finishes, and water can saturate the lining. We sell a stovebag which is designed to be highly weather resistant. When not in use we recommend storing it dry, undercover, a shed is fine. can this stove be used to heat a covered outdoor area. can it be used for hours at a go?

First its a good stove, I use wood for frying and charcoal for simmering. 
I have used it to sit around on my covered decking area burning 1.5 foot hazel sticks. 
It only provides ample heat in this way if the flames are above the stove.
It has been used all summer and there is no sign of degrading ware.
Hours at a go no problem.
I intend to get another next summer to have two pots on the go.
When I want more heat to sit around I use a Oypla Open Fire Basket 15" on a couple of paving slabs.
