Mandarin Companion graded readers are always well illustrated and have the proper amount of vocabulary repetition for language acquisition. This story was engaging and leveraged some actual figures from the 1920s. When I heard Mandarin Companion published a new graded reader, I immediately purchased a copy because I'm very supportive of the work of John Pasden and Jared Turner. My reading level is now a bit higher than this book, so I read through it very quickly. I never would have reached that level without their other books! Thank you, John and Jared!
