Yale Y500
Bought this for an elderly relative, and spent many hours researching before I decided on this one. I would probably have preferred a push button model, but I wasn't impressed by the security on these. It surprised me that each digit is simply set as either active or not active. This means that a) the code can't use the same digit twice (could be an important consideration...) and that the code digits can be entered in any order. There are probably still many possible combinations, but not as many as one might imagine.Having decided on the 4 digit wheel type lock I then researched these. Without wanting to give too much away, I googled the name of the key safe I'd decided on, only to find a serious flaw in its security. Doing a similar search for the Yale Y500 I could find no similar flaw. That could be because, if the lack of reviews on Amazon is any indication, it's a relatively new model. Looking closely, it perhaps doesn't have the same drawback as the other model, but then I'm no safe cracker. Still, fingers crossed...The biggest problem I found was getting it out of its packaging. I know Yale have a reputation for security, but that's taking it too far!Once out, the first thing I noticed was how big it is. Most of this is the black surround, which is heavy duty plastic. This is probably intended to make it difficult to lever it off the wall. It would certainly slow down anyone trying. It comes with 4 screws which would be fine for wood, but like most people probably I was fitting it to brick. Yale recommend using anchors. These will be far more secure than the screws with wall plugs (the latter not supplied). I found M6 the right size, but make sure you get them with a head for a screwdriver rather than the bolt type. There isn't room in the safe to turn any type of spanner.Setting the combination is easy, and the wheels can be concealed by a cover which is slid up. I was tempted to remove 1 star as the wheels and numbers are rather small for elderly eyes and fingers to see and turn. However, that would perhaps be unfair as they are no smaller than those on other key safes, and actually the prime need for key safe is for relatives, friends and carers, for whom it should prove no problem. When I tried I found there is plenty of room inside for at least one Yale and one mortice key. Finally, another plus point. To open the key safe, enter the code, and then press the circle above the combination. (looks like a button in the picture but is just indented on the lid). This causes the lid to spring open. To close the safe you have to push the safe closed and jumble the digits. If you don't do this, the lid will spring open again, making sure the safe can not be left unlocked.Hopefully I've made a good choice, but I hope too that it's never put to the test.

Secure!
Rarely review, but some of what I’ve read on others’ comments need addressing. This is very secure if fitted properly. The plastic surround (which makes it a bit wider than some units) is great as it will plainly snap if someone tries to lever this off the wall, making the main unit (which is a steel case within) even more secure. The code setting is a breeze, and the internal space will take at least two sets of keys. My sole complaint? Why supply this without the required (or indeed any) wall plugs?

Standard item.
Yup ! Standard item in the world. Possibly not the strongest or the least pickable? but it looks pretty robust to me. My visitors have never raised a complaint.
