Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Jazz Saxophone Duets: Featuring Gordon Goodwin and Eric Marienthal (Book & CD): 10 New Duet Arrangements (Jazz Duet)

This book of duets is very useful because it works with two altos or two tenors or one of each. It comes complete with a CD recording of all three possible combinations and you can practise with both parts playing or silence one part by adjusting the balance between your speakers as the stereo has one part on each channel. The players on the CD are really impressive - it's terrific playing. The pieces are in a variety of jazz styles and some of them include short passages for improvisation with chords symbols. Your duet partner on the CD will also take a solo - just in case your were starting to gain confidence. If you can keep up with Gordon Goodwin (tenor) and Eric Marienthal (alto), you really are doing very well! (To find out more about these musicians and their achievements, you can visit their websites.)The standard is challenging - I would say the easiest piece is at least grade 7 and the jazz rhythms include some complicated figures. The two parts are approximately equal in terms of difficulty. These duets really are good fun if you are up to the challenge and the pieces are satisfying to play. It is a great opportunity to play duets with players of this calibre and you can pick up some great jazz phrasing. The range is within the normal compass though there is the odd super A in the first tenor part.You would need two copies to perform this live as an alto and tenor duet as the book is divided into two halves - alto duet version at the front and tenor duet version at the back with the option of combining the two or potentially substituting a soprano or baritone.The printing and layout is top quality (there are no "I couldn't read it" excuses here) it is all very clear though some of the page turns do add to the challenge.

Very nice duets in here, my son is an advanced player and enjoys playing these with his teacher where they both combine alto and tenor.

This book is excellent. The duets are Challenging (Abrsm grade 6 upwards)but really good fun to play. I like the fact that you get both Alto and Tenor in the same book, saves a lot of people buying 2 books.Well worth buying

Exactly the book I've been looking for! My son is a sax player and has been looking for a book of duets to use with his ensemble group. This book has lots of great selections and is well laid out. Delivery was super fast and they were able to start using it immediately. Will shop this vendor again when looking for more material. Great value for the price.

Bref, si on veut jouer la partie 1 accompagnée par la partie 2, on met tout le son à droite, et vice-versa.Cependant, ce ne sont pas les versions CD de Big Phat Band. I love the Big Phat Band!! And these solos are great! Highly recommended! And FYI, these can be played with any combination of alto and tenor saxes. (2 altos, 2 tenors, or 1 alto and 1 tenor).

Wir spielen manche der Titel schon mit unserer Bigband. Dass es die Titel jetzt auch als Duette gibt ist klasse. Nutze sie im Unterricht für meine fortgeschrittenen Schüler. Die fahren voll drauf ab. Machen sehr viel Spaß - auch schon beim langsamen üben. Und dann... nach und nach das Tempo steigern :)
