Good, But Misses the Mark
A very good Expansion Pack, probably the best of the three released so far, though I do have some issues with it, issues that make it fall just short of "greatness".The Conan Boardgame is supposed to be faithful to the original Howard Stories. Trouble is, none of the stories actually take place in Khitai. This means that the Expansion Pack is basically just pastiche material. They really should have made it more like the Nordheim Expansion Pack, which is based almost exclusively on The Frost Giant's Daughter. This really should have been the Zamora Expansion Pack. The Village Game Board should have been The Maul. The Tower Game Board should have been the Tower of the Elephant (duh!). The "hero" should have been Taurus the Thief, the Foo Dogs should have been lions, and Shuang Mian should have been Yara the Sorceror. Throw in a giant spider and Yag Kosha and it would have been a truly great and remarkably faithful Expansion Pack. Still, I was able to create a fairly decent Tower of the Elephant scenario using the existing pieces and the Yogah of Yag figure (sold seperately, and quite pricey I would add). It's probably my favorite of the three Expansion Packs released so far. The Tower Game Board alone makes it worth the price. If you're a fan of the movie, you could even create a scenario based around the Tower of Set, and if you have the Nordheim Expansion Pack as well, Niord would make a suitable stand in for Rexor and the Vanir warriors would make suitable stand ins for Thulsa Doom's guards. The hero Shentu, who comes with this supplement, makes a suitable stand in for Subotai. It's just a wasted opportunity not to have made this the Zamora Expansion Pack, since it comes so close to being truly great.

Good But Questionably Thematic Expansion.
The Khitai expansion is your typically beautifully produced expansion for Monoltih's extraordinary Conan series of games. However, the producers when so far out of their way to keep the previous game material as close to Howard's vision (and have been properly lauded for it), that this expansions seems so far out of left field. As I don't think Conan ever made it to Khitai in any of the original stories. They could've used Turan, a nation in Hyborea loosely based on Mongolian and Turkic peoples, and would have fit in nicely.Baffling, but still worth getting.
