Q: Hex shank Diameter is actually 9/16" (14.288mm), yes?

The Hex shank diameter of the one I bought would not quite fit into my 1/2 inch chuck. I had to grind of 1/32 of an inch on three of the flats. Your correct that it was bigger than 1/2 inch. More like 9/16
