I bought this for my mother who has macular degeneration and needs a good magnifying glass to read and for other activities. This handsome-looking magnifying glass is one of the best, cleanest magnifying glasses I've come across in the "small" magnifying glass category, i.e., a magnifying glass that's portable, one that does not have a long handle (with or without the capability to put batteries in the handle for added light) and is not large-diameter (this magnifying glass has a diameter of less than 3"). It is fairly heavy, though, so it might not be suitable for putting in a shirt pocket, and it would add weight to a pocketbook. Still, it's a great magnifier. There is some chromatic aberration at the edges when you hold it at its very maximum distance to still get a clear image in the center, but most people don't use a magnifying glass at its maximum central focal length. It's supposed to achieve 20x magnification (see photo; if you can enlarge the photo, notice how well it magnifies the threads of the tablecloth in the background). I'm pleased with the image and magnification it provides, as is my mother whose opinion is more important than mine in this case. I'm trying to set up a little stand for the magnifying glass so that my mother will be able to use the magnifying glass hands-free and at an angle in order to thread a needle or do other activities that require fine manipulation with both hands. Until I devise such a stand to allow use of the magnifying glass at an angle, I found that I could simply put the "handle/case" part on a small pile of books to raise it about 8" off the table surface, add a book on top of the handle to weigh it down while the glass reaches out beyond the books, and that gives my mother ample room to manipulate needle and thread. The main disadvantage of this setup is that my mother has to stand up to look through the magnifying glass because it is parallel to the surface of the table. In any case, it's a great magnifier and I highly recommend it.

I was please to get a product of much higher quality than I expected. The glass is clear. The frame is solid. It opens and closes with a friction lock to hold the lens in place when closed. I don't know what the power actually, but I could easily read the smallest print I could find. There was more magnifying than I needed. And there was no distortion that interfered. It has felt on one side and will make an attractive addition to a desktop. I will use it as a pocket monocle. I hate bi-focals and I hate reading glasses. you will like this product. Will

I was challenged with the description and should have understood the size. This isn't one you would want to every day carry. Its a little too big for that purpose. However, for your desk or table, its perfect. Well made and would look good for any purpose. polished chrome on one side and a felt pad botton, so you can simply place on any surface for easy use. Powerful and useful

I got this for semi-clinical use and I have several other magnifiers of varying quality and magnification, including a 10X and a 5X. This one is definitely 5X and not 10X as advertised. It also causes considerable distortion around the edges of the image, only the central 50% is really usable. It is roughly 2" across, quite heavy, and has fabric on one side of the metal case. It is definitely not a pocket magnifier. It is obviously not a loupe (but you can see that from the picture). What it is is a pretty 5x desktop magnifying glass that can be used for brief close up inspection of various things. It is too heavy to use for extended reading. That said, it is still 3 stars because the housing is pretty and it feels solidly made. I am however returning mine as it is useless for my application.

I have mine in my desk. It is substantial and made very very well! It is really a unique quality product. I use it for small print that I simply cannot read anymore and love it. It is heavy and made of metal and glass and feels super expensive! This would be too heave to carry around in your purse but works well for home use in the desk. This will last forever, or until I drop it and it breaks. I would immediately buy the same one again!

Excellent magnifier, the magnifier is large and I use it for the very small print that some manufacturers use for those hidden phone Numbers that the naked Eye even with eye glasses could never see....it justifies the purchase of a strong magnifying glass like thezhi Jin portable folding magnifying Glass ....worth the investment just to be able to contact the customer service groups and make my grievance known regarding faulty cat food.....it’s bad business to harm animals and the manufacturer should know about

This item represents one of those times when a product or item EXCEEDS ALL EXPECTATIONS. It's amazing quality more than surpasses the description, and it has a solid feel with it's all metal and optical glass components it's easily worth three times the price. Includes a handy small cleaning cloth and storage box. I would highly recommend it to any collector of stamps, coins or vi ntage items to verify markings etc.

It is very well made. And the glass is very clear! It has a little heft which feels good in my hand. I also like the ability to place it in front of my digital camera lens to magnify the subject a little bit more.

What a fantastic deal. Due to arrive 14/12 to 23/12. Arrived 09/12. I have never received anything so well packaged before. Wrapped in two sealed plastic bags. Then enclosed in triple layer if foam material. Then sealed and surrounded in air pocket packing and finally sealed in plastic envelope. I think you could have thrown this under a bus and have it survive. Oh, it was also in a lovely presentation box as well. Brilliant. Now to the item itself. Beautifully crafted. Solid construction and very effective. Much, much nicer than I expected. This would make a beautiful present. All this and under £10. Unbelievable bargain. Cannot rate highly enough.

Liked the quality of the lens, providing good magnification across its diameter. Disliked the build quality, in that the lens is twisted in its housing, but functionality is fine. I use this item to examine antique postcards and photos, in assessing their print quality. For this purpose, portability is important and I would prefer a lighter product but the larger size lens is attractive.
