I have very thick & rather unruly hair, and I have tried several types of this style of duck-billed hair claw clips but they generally are too slim & thin to hold up a thick bunch of hair firmly in place on its own. I bought this set of 3 to try and was surprised with how small they were. I wasn't expecting much based on the size but when I tried them in my hair, they surprisingly held up my thick bunch of hair quite firmly in place. I think the four long prongs at the bottom help a lot in gripping hair in place, and the teeth under the duck-bill were of sufficient size & length to bite into a bun and hold it rather firmly in place. The spring mechanism keeping the claw shut had good tension too, which, I am sure helped.Suffice to say, this has been surprisingly effective hair clip considering its rather compact size. I like it.

Even though I use two at a time my hair is still uncontrollable. From the advertising photos I thought one should do the job, I was wrong. It’s best for straight hair.
