Use the salt test in a plastic bag. You can google for details. Just add a bit of water to make teaspoon of salt all wet. I don't know if there's a way to adjust the sensor reading, I found mine within 3%

There are 2 minimum indoor temperatures listed 14 and 32 degrees F. Which is correct?

You must have interpreted the readings incorrectly. Did you press min and see 14, then reset and see 32, then press min again and see 32? If you press reset the min and max are set to the current temp. In that case 14 would be the correct min.
