Does it work on paint. Like on a painting?

It is paint. It’s like a blunt sharpie that marks a strip of white paint on whatever you’re writing on. The mark is about 1/8” wide and opaque. It marks on most surfaces unless they have an oily film. It takes a few minutes to dry. Then it is relatively permanent.

Will it stain gunmetal if no follow-up galvanizing?

Not sure if put on heavy it does run

Can it be put onto a stainless steel surface that will be in an oven at 400 degrees?

Man not sure always wrote on metal and sides of combines and on the engine and it hefts really hot not sure the temp during a 100 degree day I would think compartment was 3-400 degrees I would try it hope this helps
