Oil filled heater - 2kW version (without timer)
This heater was bought to heat our bedroom which measures 4m x 4.5m x 3m high. Its fairly large as bedrooms go, but this little heater is fine for background heating. It arrived well packaged. First thing you need to do is assemble the feet which are 4 castors. There are 2 U-shaped clamps for this, with a locking nut (I would prefer a metal locking nut, but the plastic one seems to be OK). I waited a few moments for the oil to settle after turning the heater upside down in order to screw the feet on, then I was ready to turn on.The thermostat, from what I can tell, is fairly accurate, and only comes on when the room heat falls below your preset level. Unlike some cheap heaters where inaccurate thermostats relentlessly switch off and on. The heater takes a little while to warm up, but seems to retain the heat well, therefore you are using less electricity in the long run. Heat is well dissipated from the sides and top of the fins. There are two settings, 1 & 2, which corresponds to heat output. We leave ours on setting 1 for background heat which equates to roughly 1.4kW. One issue I have found with some heaters is loud pops, and clicks. This heater is quiet, the stat is also quiet, and to me, as a bedroom heater that's very important. Beware, the mains pilot light is always on. Why Dimplex have wired it this way, I don't know. I personally like a visual indication of when the heater is drawing electricity, i.e. pilot light on when the stat cuts in. But, this is a minor niggle.GOOD POINTS1. Nice well dissipated heat.2. Economical to run on setting 1 as a background heater3. Well made.4. Very quiet.5. Accurate thermostat.NEGATIVE POINTS:1. Thermostat could be marked a bit better.2. Pilot light is always on, irrespective of thermostat position.3. Cable could be a little longer (its only 1.3m you might need an extension lead?).Overall, Dimplex still live up to heir name, and a much better buy than other oil filled heaters we have bought.I hope you find this review useful.

First class heater, well built and works well
I have been using this Dimplex 2kw oil filled radiator for a few years now. I bought it to replace an old Delonghi 2kw one which served us very well.I have uploaded a few photos to accompany this review just so you can see the thing in real life!Upon delivery you will have to fit the castors/wheels which is easy enough and doesn't require any tools. It's just a matter of a two brackets and tightening a wing nut on each - 5 mins and it's done! This Dimplex radiator measuresHeight - 25 inchesWidth - 11.4 inchesLength - 17.3 inchesThe power cable is thick/well made and is 1.3 meters (130cm) long. Note - The manufacturer/advice is to plug this heater directly into a plug socket on the wall. It is not advisable to use an extension reel as they can and will overheat and this heater will keep cutting out. There is a cable tidy so you can wrap the power cable up and plug it in at the bottom to store away over the summer etc.Note - with safety in mind this does have a safety cut out if for some reason it does overheat but this has not happened with ours. We do keep it plugged into a wall socket though. The radiator looks great and is nicely finished, smooth and clean looking. The control panel consists of a thermostat dial and two switches. There is a power indication light so you know if it's on. The dial has 16 steps of control and a frost setting. The switches are one for power on and off and the other switch is to use this as a 1kw or 2kw heater. Nice and simple to use. There is no timer on this heater - just a simple on and off with this one.How does it compare to my old Delonghi workhorse?Very well indeed! Absolutely spot on in my opinion. We use this all over the house as it is very slick on it's wheels and can be moved easily on flat floors. It weighs around 11 kg and does have built in carry handles/grooves so it can be relatively easily carried up/down stairs if need be.The frost free setting is good and just takes that edge/chill off and works great in the greenhouse overnight if you're an avid gardener! To heat a 12ft x 12ft room up in our house we use the 1kw setting and about half way around on the dial and it warms the room up quite well and it does heat up pretty quickly in my experience - which is always good!On this setting it is quite hot to the touch and set on full belt at 2kw and fully turned up on the dial it's damn hot! I often sit a cuppa on it in the conservatory to keep it warm (naughty I know!)Being an oil filled radiator when it gets up to it's desired temperature it cuts the electricity supply off until it cools down again then kicks it back in to get back up to temp. These oil filled radiators are great at retaining heat so this is better on your pocket for your hard earned cash!I'm glad I bought this radiator, it has done a first class job upto now and looks like it will for many years to come.I can warmly recommend it if you're looking to buy!

Not quite powerful enough
Bought for our bedroom which is 4.4m x 4.1m. I researched (including on the Dimplex website) before purchase to check that the KW was sufficient for the size of room. Unfortunately it doesn't heat the room as well as I would expect. We do live in an old art deco block of flats so this wouldn't help. However taking this in to consideration it still isn't as good as I would have hoped. It definitely takes the chill out of the air though. This is a great little heater but just not suitable for a room of our size/age. We're going to move it in to the smaller second bedroom and think it should be a better fit there and buy something more powerful for the larger bedroom. It's made well and looks nice - almost like a old roll top. Excellent price too. Definitely worth the money but consider the room size/type and over estimate what you need to be sure you buy something that covers your requirements. Shame it doesn't have a built in timer but we've been using with a timer that plugs in to wall socket and it works well (haven't noticed any overheating etc).

A good little heater
A good little heater, effective for small rooms. The thermostat isn't very precise and seems to be more of an on/off switch than anything. No timer so you'll need to buy a separate one for the socket like I did if you want it to activate at specific times. Takes a while to warm up like all oil-filled heaters do but does get pretty hot overall. In real terms, on max power this thing would have an average garden shed stiflingly hot within 1-2 hours and an average bedroom/living room quite hot in the same time. Anything larger than that it could probably manage 'just warm enough' over 3-4 hours assuming the heat isn't escaping outdoors
