As the directions state, it could take an hour to days or weeks for the Red Head Barrel to stop leaking. I flushed the barrel with clean water 4 times. I then filled it with water to start the process of swelling the barrel to create a leak proof barrel. I was very fortunate, mine didn’t leak at all so I was able to start my aging process with Rum within an hour of opening the package.I would recommend adding to the instructions on placement of the barrel for the beginner like myself once you start the aging process; indoors, outdoors, breezy or draft free etc.

Bought the Five liter, followed the directions to cure, then filled it with almost three half gallons of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. Amazing how this barrel smooths an already good bourbon. Great customer service also, you will not be disappointed if you purchase one.

This barrel was ordered as a gift, and we filled it with Vieux Carre. We chose Redhead barrels because of their excellent reviews. The barrel arrived quickly, was in perfect condition, the engraving looks wonderful and the overall quality is great. We contacted the Redhead company twice with questions, and they responded immediately. It now needs to age for 40 days, and then we can't wait to give this very special gift to our son.

The barrel is so well made that the water cure wouldn’t have been necessary. There were absolutely no leaks
