not great on thin material
I bought this for welding car bodywork, 0.9mm thick. I found that on the recommended settings, and with gasless, flux cored wire, it blew straight through the panel like a plasma cutter. I converted to gas, using 0.6mm wire, 0.6mm contact tips, not much different. Still way too much power even on lowest setting. Having to choose from various switch settings rather than a couple of dials seems to give limited control. I gave up and bought an inverter welder (7.6kg rather than the 24kg or so like the Clarke), much more fine control, and doesn't immediately blast right through the thin sheet. Now the only problem is my technique, but at least the welder allows me to achieve some kind of weld and I'm able to improve with practice. The new welder did cost about £75 more but it was worth it!

Good welder for the money and decent customer service
Delivery - the welder was delivered on time however was missing a few of the smaller parts. All of the parts are stored in the wire feed chamber on the right hand side of the machine. I contacted the seller to advise of the missed parts and initially the fella who called was a bit shirty telling me that they must be there etc. After a short while they were ordered and sent out as a replacement.Quality - the welder is good quality for the money. It comes set up as gasless but can easily be switched over to gas. The supplied MIG fluxcore wire is not great and I used it for practice before replacing it with a more quality spool and the difference is huge. The whole thing is solidly built and I see this lasting up well to workshop and small garage use.Operation - easy to setup, easy wire feed mechanism and simple to plug in all the parts. One thing you wont have control of with this is the amps. You have 3 switches and a chart with corresponds to different materials, gas/gasless and thickness of material. It is then a case of flipping the switches according to the chart. The only thing you have fine control over is wire speed. Good results can be had from using the recommended settings though I played about with these a little and refined it slightly.Overall I recommend this welder, especially if you can convert to gas. Good quality, good price and good welds

no sugar on my dohnut
happy with how it welds no problems therenot happy with the advertising picture, it shows a staggerd handle to make it easy to move about and a heavy duty coiled lance sheath, it shows this on the box also, but when you get it out of the box it has a short streight handle for very short midgets and a cheap thin watch you dont crease it plastic cover over the lance which you would expect on the cheaper welders.these were the things that swayed me towards spending the extra cash, it sounded quality, it looked quality.mr clarke it seems youve taken the sugar off my f---ing dohnut but at least the jams still in there aaay

A great machine for the improver.
This machine transformed my welding ability , I'd started off with a little SIP Handymig which was ok but had it's limitations . Since I started using the Clarke ...Suddenly I can weld ! sticking patches onto my rusty Land rover right left and centre.

An excellent buy for experienced and beginners alike
I am thoroughly satisfied with the Clarke MIG151EN Turbo. I bought it as a direct replacement for my NuTools Gas/Gasless Mig which had served me faithfully for the previous 10 years and the Clarke is already demonstrating it's build quality and ease of use.I use it for almost exclusively automotive work, plating and repairing sills, chassis members, bodywork and fabrication i.e custom exhaust or engine mounts. It has prooved equalky proficient for the strongest structural work aswell as for use on body panels where penetration of the metal is required as much as any other welding work but slightly too much heat and it doesn't take much overheating will warp the panels, ruining them for good. It has the flexibility at either end of the spectrum.
