I heated up the hot plate from 100 C to 200 C and smoke started coming from underneath plate. Is this a problem or expected for new heating elements?

I too got smoke in the beginning but then it stopped. Works fine for me after but of course proceed at your own risk

Instruction manual states: "do not produce the heat more than 110 degree when operating; otherwise temp may destroy lcd screen." what does this mean?

What temp do you use to recover SMD parts? I tried 300 and my PCB started burning up/delaminating.

Some times I do about 178 temp.

Is there a weight limit on this item, can I put a 5 gallon bucket of water on top of it?

I would expect it can take the weight of 5-gallons of water (approx. 35-pounds) but be aware it might melt the ribs on the bottom of the bucket if you were using a plastic bucket.

Seems to be built well.

It seems to work well. I am pleased with the weight and the initial inspection of build quality. I will be taking it apart to inspect the inside soon. I have so far only turned it on outside for an hour to burn off any smells, but I found the pid controls easy to use. I look forward to using it on some pcb's.

Works phantastic. Heats up quick and keeps the temperature. It even seems to have a PID controller rather than a simple thermostat.
