My 2006 vw jetta original key has chip. can i mount the ignition switch without chip?

I thought I could and it was a lot of heartache. VW has set up the ignition system so it can't be hotwired, thus you need to go to your local VW agency and get them to have it programmed in Wolfsburg - you'll need a backup vehicle for your VW will be down for a while; 10 days to several months depending on where you are.
