I was shocked when I realized that I had some really old information that I wanted to get at locked in an obscure, no longer supported, backup format. Luckily I still had the DOS program that created the backup, unluckily I needed to restore it to a floppy disk. After a frantic search for a drive, I stumbled onto an ad for 3M floppies and ordered them. The box arrived with 11 disks and, sure enough, one of them was bad. Thankfully I only needed 7 of them.I expect these disk were probably made over 10 years ago and someone is just trying to get rid of them. Since I have routinely found at least one bad disk in every box, I can't complain at all about this ancient media. 3M and Verbatim are about the only floppy disks I would purchase anymore, because I would expect all the others to have a lot of dropouts.
