OkumaOkuma FE-500 Fina Elite Spinning, Black

I was hoping to add this to my ultralight arsenal. The reel appears to be well made. It feels nice in the hand, casts well, looks good, and has a nice drag system. I especially like the large handle, you don't often find that on reels of this size. It's welcome for those of us with bigger hands. (On that note I do wish the arm that holds the reel away from the rod was a bit longer, again, big hands.)However, my unit was defective. There appears to be some kind of issue where, if I tighten the screw that holds the handle in place, it causes the handle to bind on retrieve. This isn't overtightening, it happens as soon as it becomes snug, and persists until the screw is backed out at least one full turn. The best way I can describe it is there are several "lumps", ranging from mild, to 'can completely stop your retrieve'. If I loosen the screw that holds the handle on the problem goes away, but doing so leaves you with an unsecure, loose and floppy handle, and you can't really fish properly with that.I took the reel out today in hopes that whatever was causing the binding would work its way out with use and smooth over, but after a couple hours (and a handful of fish caught, the reel does technically work), there was no change. Small reels like this are usually used for finesse fishing, you're retrieving slow and feeling very carefully for those bites. But this reel, with the constant catches during retrieve, makes that extremely difficult.
