The One Year Book of Josh McDowellโs Family Devotions is a Right From Wrong devotional that reinforces the need for applying the Scriptures to everyday decisions. Each of the 365 readings includes a story situation that deals with a contemporary issue and helps families think through how to make the right choices in a particular situation. At the end of each reading is a helpful feature that encourages families to pray, invites them to discuss the issue further, or gives them a practical task to perform. Review: Awesome, easy to read devotional. Every family should get!!! - Love love love this devotional!! Our family reads it every night with the kids and it has down to earth life lesson scenarios that we can read and discuss afterward. Highly highly recommend!! I even buy this book as gifts for my friends because I feel everyone benefits from the basic lessons. Thank you Josh McDowell for writing this book!! Review: Great family devotional! - My family has thoroughly enjoyed this family devotional. We try to do it once a week after dinner (even though itโs a daily devotional) and we usually choose a topic pertinent to anything we may be currently experiencing (not necessarily the page for the date). It takes about 15 minutes and the stories and discussion provoked great conversation. My kids are 12, 11 and 7 and they all contribute at their level of understanding. If youโre looking for something to deepen your family bond and reinforce your faith this is an excellent devotional.

excellent but volume 2 is better
This is a very good daily family devotional guide that covers many relevant topics that kids deal with. It provides a great way to start Bible oriented discussions of important topics with your kids. This book was sold out at the store where we first tried to get it so we bought volume 2 instead. After having used both, I think volume 2 has a slightly better format and the stories are told in language that is less corny and more palatable to today's children and youth.

Great family conversations
This book has been a great family devotional. It has sparked great family conversations with our kids. We read and discuss the Bible passage first, and then we read the story and discuss any further questions. Itโs deepening my kids understanding of the Bible and helping them to look for and understand themes.

Makes the point of each devotion relatable.
Sometimes I think that maybe I wish there was a little more scripture involved. You read a few verses, then there's a story, then a discussion and a very brief prayer. I am enjoying the stories though and I'm watching my kids' reactions as I read and I believe they're all getting the points. It's taking a bible passage and using a fictional story that you can really relate to or understand. So, I wouldn't recommend this if you're an adult that wants some DEEP study tools... but if you have a family with children and you want them to really GET the meaning of the messages, I would definitely recommend this book.

THIS IS GREAT! I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS AND I HAD TO FOR THIS!
Our children's ministry pastor recommended this book and the youth for my 12 year old. I have 7 yr old twins and a 12 yr old daughter. I was looking for something to use that they could relate to and boy did I find it. Each passage is short and only takes a couple minutes but it led to great conversation and discussion about God and then an incredible prayer by them all. I highly recommend this one and the youth book for older children!

Cheesy--But Ignore the Cheese for the Lessons Underneath
A previous reviewer stated that the language of the book is cheesy, and I have to agree. Every dialogue sentence has something hanging off it (think "Lisa whispered softly", "Chad stated happily", "Misha looked wide-eyed") and they become annoying. I read the stories aloud to my family and I end up condensing the sentences and dropping the fluff for a better flow. We also encountered some weird character names that leave my husband screaming, "Argh! Just change the name to Steve or something! This is ridiculous!" Weird names are interesting to me, but they distract my kids who spend the lesson saying the name and giggling. But the Bible verses are great, the questions are way more than just rehashing basic reading comprehension (I can't say that for some adult Bible studies out there!) and I'm glad we're using this! My 8 year old can follow along and answer the questions, but it's over the head of my 4 year old. It's definitely a book for ages 7+ and only takes 10-15 minutes.

Great resource for family's that have a strong conviction about keeping God first in their home. The stories are well written and entertaining, and the questions/activities at the end are great for reflecting on the message of the story. I would suggest this for kids 12+ as some of the stories (depending on how how exposed your children are to certain concepts, ie,drunkenness) may not be suitable to younger children. All in all a great supplental tool for the family

Three Stars
Good for a family with pre-teen children; has an American-culture 'flavour' to the book.
