Timeguard ZV700 Digital Security Light Switch

This is quite tricky to install, but once done it works very well. Can reliably leave it to turn on lights when I am away and off again at my usual bedtime. It is also good to have the random option which means lights come on and off at random intervals within the on time period that you set. Sometimes even goes on and off within 90 seconds which is just like me going to the kitchen to make a drink, although I am really on the other side of the world!Even works with eco light bulbs when using 2 lights together e.g in a hall and landing. Well impressed.

I previously had one of these installed for a number of years when the digital display failed, so in haste I bought a similar product which did not operate effectively with low power bulbs, so reverting back to what I know I purchased this product which arrived in days and took 5 minutes to fit, the only issue I had was that the screws supplied were for a deep back box whereby mine is shallow, but luckily I had the screws from the previous device, so worth bearing in mind before you buy, check the box depth. Because of my previous experience I took just a minute to set it up and yes it is that easy. This product works with a number of light bulbs and is quite versatile, so I would definitely recommend it.

So the winter months are approaching and soon you'll be coming home in the dark...What can you do about it?We have a motion sensor light in the driveway but the frontdoor is around a corner and always in darkness. We have an outside light above the door but mostly I forget to turn it on before I leave for work. And anyway I dont like the idea of leaving a light burning all day long. I tried a energy saver bulb with a built in light sensor, but the light is under the eaves and in the shade, so it stayed on all day. Then I found this product. It is the perfect solution! Easy to install. Just undo the current wall switch and replace with this one (remember to switch off the electricity circuit first!). Once installed it's easy to programme and works just like the digital security timers that you use for free standing lamps.As other reviewers have already said the only major problem is that low energy bulbs have to be above 20W and often flicker when switched off. I tried 2 different brands - phillips and B&Q own brand at 20W and 23W and both bulbs had the same problem. Bizarrely the 15W energy saver with the built in solar sensor works perfectly. No flickering at all when switched off, so no need to purchase the optional snubber device! The only other thing to mention is that when the light is on, the switch makes a buzzing noise at about the same level as some of the dimmer switches in our house. Doesn't bother me as the hallway is quite a distance from my bedroom. All in all a very good solution to a particular problem but choose your energy saver bulb carefully. Consider trying a energy saver with a built in light sensor as this worked for me.

The first item I received didn't work, but the retailer replaced it. The second one worked for 4 months then stopped working even after the fuse, bulb and reset were all replaced or reset. The product is unreliable and not work the effort!

Bought as a replacement for one that had previously suffered the same fate that awaited this one. Worked for a week - a bulb blew - and that in turn blew the timer in the switch - now works solely as an on/off switch. Apparently (I called the supplier) you cannot use LED bulbs - I'm not a sparks so apart from his advice to use 40w filament bulbs the rest of the advice was too technical .......... makers instructions to be very clear for the layman who will inevitably have to change bulbs over time.

Bought this a short while ago and the setup was not as simple as I expected, the documentation is not very clear. Tried to use with Phillips Low Energy bulbs greater than 20W as described in the documentation and it just flickers even when the light is not switched on. Replaced the bulb with a conventional one and it seemed to work ok. The bulb eventually blew and then when I replaced with another conventional buld the Auto mode now does not work. Spoke to Time Guards Tech Support and they said the circuitry on board must have suffered an overload and is damaged and I must now puchase another one. They do not offer any circuitry protection in this device. They advise via phone that they know of two bulb manaufacures who include some inrush current limitation, Phillips being one of them. Really poor design and I would strong advise anybody who reads this not to bother with this product or any other product from this manufacturer. In todays environment we expect these products to be able to deal with this situation day in day out. This product is absolutely crap and I'll be asking for a replacement and in the future I will avoid this manufacturer all together.

I have just received this on time and well packaged. I have not yet had the time to fit this but my first impression is the high quality of this product, so I am looking forward to fitting this. I will add further comments once I have fitted this.July 24th 2014Have now fitted this and the fitting is very simple if you understand domestic ring mains wiring. Once fitted it took me a while to program It but once I sussed out the instructions all went well. It certainly does what it says on the tin, so much so that I plan to fit a couple more to two other rooms.

Excellent product. I bought this to replace a faulty unit that had been installed for about ten months and sourced from a well know diy chain. There is just no comparison, This unit is not only cheaper, but is better made, easier to program and easier to install, and has much better visual indications of what it is doing.Delivery was within a couple of days. All in all a positive experience of both the vendor and the product. I would highly recommend it.
