Q: Are these long enough in the body? I have an older merino wool top for winter camping and feel its too short, these seem very cheap for merino.

I find them fine but I am short anyway. They are 20% polyester/80% merino and compare well with a Smartwool top I have. If you are anything bigger than skinny go up a size as they are close fitting.

Q: Size guide would be handy. i have a 46” (117cms) chest. so, xl?

I also got two of the Asgard tops and they seem better quality. They were on offer so got a couple. I'm 44" chest 175cm tall and went for large as the XL I had bought previous was a bit roomy. I found the large a snug fit which is what I was hoping for a baselayer. I just wore this under my jacket seemed very good. Went Les Deux Alpes in March and it was warm at base but right at the top a little cooler but was fine in that. I'd guess that the XL should fit you but would recommend the Asgard rather than this one it has more structure to it. Look out for the offer.
