Great refractometer for testing the salinity in any marine aquarium. Was already perfectly zeroed out right from the box. Very accurate results. Only complaint is the numbering on the scale itself is a little small to read, and you can only see the results if you have a light right above the place you add the sample. You also have to get your eye just right on the viewer to be able to see the results. Works great other than the quirks I mentioned. Decent price for a very accurate tester.

The refractometer works great! You're definitely getting a good deal, relative to other brands that sell the same gadget for twice the price. The refractometer is already calibrated perfectly when you receive it; but if you want to check, just add some drops of RODI or distilled water in the lense, and it should read 0 (That's how you know it's properly calibrated).I did have a slight problem. After a month's use, I was devastated to see that the lense cap fell off, making the reading impossible. I messaged the seller for help, not only did she respond promptly, she also gave me a visual guide as to how to fix the problem (She had apparently encountered it once before). The instructions were perfect, but my refractometer was still not working properly. No matter, she willingly offered to send me a replacement. No fuss, and incredibly accommodating.And yes, second one arrived quickly and without further issues! :)

Once you place sample water on prism end, you must be careful how you put back the transparent cover over the sample. This could have been designed better and I had to attempt several times to get a good reading initially. However, the readings were consistent and once I got used to it, was relatively easy. Calibration was slightly off, which was very easy to adjust with given small screwdriver. Its a 4.5 stars actually with the cover being a slight issue. A very good deal for the money. (I paid less than $15, local fish store wanted $45!!) I would easily recommended to friends.

I picked up this unit to use during my recent field marine biology class. Once calibrated, it did a great job.This salinity refractometer did what I needed it to do. We used it to measure salinity in tide pools at different vertical elevations in the intertidal zone. We also used it to monitor salinity of seawater entering our holding tanks in the lab.This unit would work well for the saltwater aquarist as well. In fact, that is who this unit is designed for.The only down side I see is that the refractometer does not come with a calibration blank, but distilled water also works just fine.The unit is small enough to fit into a pocket, is light enough not to be a pain to haul around, and is accurate enough for top-notch field work.I also like the fact that this refractometer comes in a hard-side case to keep it from getting banged about.No reason not to award this unit the full 5 stars.Cheers.

This Product is well manufactured and of sturdy design, It arrived needing no calibration and works well. I must mention customer service. When this product arrived it arrived in a padded envelope, however, the case for the refractometer was severely damaged in shipping. The case is constructed of pretty thin/brittle plastic with an excellent amount of internal padding, great for storing and handling household wear and tear but not so good for a shipping case. When it arrived and I saw the case I figured "oh well Im not going to send this back for a broken case the refractometer still worked great(probably due to its rugged/sturdy design and the amount of foam padding inside the case) and I will just live with it. I did however leave shipping feedback to the effect of what I mentioned earlier. Well I check my mail less than a week later and lo' and behold there is a brand new case(double wrapped in padded material...lol). I didnt ask for a new case but this company took it upon themselves to go ahead and ship me a new one! Customer service! this is why I now give this product/company 5 stars

Works great. Pretty much used straight out of the box to set up 5 aquariums. Easy to use and adjust. However, case arrived broken :( Came shipped in an envelope and during shipping case must of cracked. Both hinges were broken off. Probably should ship in a box for better protection.

Easy to calibrate. Good and accurate results

Measures specific gravity accurately. Must have for serious saltwater aquarium hobbyists. Throw that outdated piece of technology we call a hydrometer away. For not much more in price you're really doing your marine animals a HUGE service. This is also a big time saver - no longer have to wait for that hydrometer arm to stop moving before you can tell what the reading is. Just add water to the chamber, make sure there are bubbles, and stand near a light source to see the readings. Clean up is quick and easy. Plus you don't have to worry about what to do with the sample water because of the small sample size needed to get your specific gravity reading; you can either throw it away or put it back in the tank. Storage case makes storing everything in your kit easy and organized.

i recommend this whoever want to buy Good seawater refractometer,one problem is buying this product is,it will take a long time to deliver because it have to come USA,for me it took 1 month,i Guess we can wait to have good product instead of buying low quality refractometer.

The product is good. For the first time Manual adjustment should be done with 0. Rest all it’s perfectly fine.
