The cornerstone for my apartment balcony landscaping project
As a serial apartment renter - a result of being moved around by work for the better part of a decade and, most recently, switching industries from aerospace to industrial power delivery - I approached my most recent move with a singular goal in mind: actually put my apartment balcony to use. My vision sits somewhere between lush herb garden and functional landscaping: a steady supply of mint, scallions, cilantro, and whatever else I happen to need on some sporadic, monthly basis, while also doubling as a daily "adventure" space for my two restless indoor cats.I selected the kdgarden planter box mainly for its aesthetic appeal - the wood and surface treatment are a step above raw drywood, and I'm happy to say the material has held up admirably over nearly two months of daily watering and being out constantly in SoCal's extreme dry heat (as the pictures will attest). Not a discolored spot to be seen, and zero water/heat damage. As the launchpad for this whole balcony project, I'm glad I started with this as its foundation. The plants are thriving - scallions, rosemary, cilantro, catnip, mint, peppermint, and heather have so far grown readily. The spearmint and cilantro in particular are on the verge of overcrowding their quarter of the box, and most of these came straight from the grocery store - I literally just stuck them into the planter after snipping off what I needed for a quick meal. (Note that my substrate is a mixture of Miracle-Gro and Kellogg Outdoor Patio Plus.)The lower tier for gardening storage has been pretty useful. I use it to keep spare substrate, a few gardening tools, and a watering can. On top of that, it acts as a shaded area for my cats, with the fully shaded area below it being another cozy spot for them to explore and lounge in at their leisure. The only nitpick I can point out was during the assembly stage - some pieces were ever so slightly off that I had to apply pressure across different stages of assembly to get pieces to fit flush or symmetric. It wasn't too egregious, though, and didn't take much force on my end. Just something to be aware of if you need assistance putting this together. Other than that, the assembly came with reasonably clear instructions and pictures to follow. So far, the garden landscaping project has been a huge success, with this planter box serving as the centerpiece that started it all. I have a robust supply of mint and scallion that I use almost daily with plenty of space left for any other herbs I can think of, and my cats join me during the day for watering and at night for relaxation (only one cat is shown in the pictures - the other's still a bit anxious when she's outdoors, though she's all over the place indoors). The slight price premium compared to other wood planters is well justified based on aesthetic appeal and material durability. Highly recommended as a solid and attractive cornerstone for the beginner gardener and budding landscape enthusiast.

Good value in raised planting beds
These are not the least expensive, but the increment is not large and the quality seems high. They assembled without much problem, they look good, and I am confident they will last.

Design
I purchased two of these for my mom because she wanted to grow some herbs but didn’t want to bend over and pick weeds out. The product is great, but I thought it would be bigger, however it is perfect for herbs or small flowers. Putting it together was a bit of a hassle though and could be confusing at times.

Covenient Raised Bed
This took time to put together, but worth it. The wood is sturdy and allow water to drain. I put removable plastic planters inside in case I wanted to reposition the planter. Since it is outside, the height keeps animals from eating the small plant. The raised height also allows for easier weeding. The only thing it could use is wheels to make it easier to reposition for catching the best sun.
